We're in the 4th inning and it takes someone at the game to start the game thread?

Apparently it's Korean Night at Dodger Stadium and there was a pre-game Tae Kwon Do demo on the field.

Screw you, UMF. My game thread was better.

If Mather hadn't gimped out that catch attempt, it'd probably still be 1-0.

Sure looked like a horrible attempt.

The jumbotron promptly flashed "#beastmode". Embarrassing.

Joe jumped too late and hit the wall on his way up, and I'm not sure it goes out unless he hits it with his glove.

It was a catch a lot of outfielders would have made.

Adrian Cardenas is by no means Javy Baez or Josh Vitter, but he's enough of a prosect that there's no excuse for him to ride the bench while Valbuena continues to be Sveum's version of Neifi Perez.

pretty sure Cardenas is a butcher in the field.

Valbuena has gotten 2 walks against possibly the best lefty in baseball and made a few good defensive plays. What odd timing on this rant.

The broads a few seats next to me want everyone to know Kemp and Ethier are so hot each time one of them come up to bat. STFU and go do the wave.

Just a random observation upon tuning in. Giving a guy like Cardenas as much time as possible to get an idea what we have in him or if it's even worth keeping him rostered next year is more important than giving Valbuena a pat on the back for a pair of walks that boosted his OPS past the .600 mark.

As was mentioned, Cardenas isn't good defensively. He shouldn't be an option for anything besides utility guy (ditto Valbuena). Neither is a good option, even for a second tier team.

Very nice outing for Volstad, especially considering the HR was Mather-aided. Nice to see him not get snake-bit by a team stringing 80% of their hits together in one inning.

Cardenas was picked up for his bat with the hopes that he could improve on his defense. Really, if there's nowhere to put him on the field he may as well be in Iowa, with Vitters at 3rd. At this point in the season there's no reason for someone like Valbuena to be playing everyday. I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you've got two guys like that, the one with the higher offensive ceiling should be getting the most PT.

They both have the ceiling of utility players, and Valbuena plays every day because he's actually a decent defensive third baseman in addition to being a better baseball player than Cardenas. Cardenas needs to be able to play irregularly as a future utility guy, and that's what's happening now. This isn't difficult.

You are completely disregarding the value of defense.

Edit: What TT said

that play has to be made.

sigh

edit: f Hanley for his stupid antics gloating over what should have been a 6-3 groundout on a 3-1 pitch

Don't worry, Hanley will end in disaster here too.

I'm not sure why Dodger fans boo Alfonso Soriano. It's quite odd.
