Evidently the Dodgers are pissed we let Dempster listen in on the trade talks last Tuesday and we may no longer have a good relationship with them. Of [expletive] well.

with the thread coming up so late, I just assumed we were going to discuss Cubs games in the "games in which the Cubs are not playing" thread.

Just saw the replay on the HR. Joe Mather, that was so embarrassing.

Great start from Volstad.

Thank goodness Ned Colletti doesn't run the Cubs. What an idiot.

So who is this Jackson guy that started for the Dodgers today?

Clayton Kershaw. Carrie Muskat blindly thought B-Jax was called up Friday, but confused him with Clayton Kershaw.

They both have the ceiling of utility players, and Valbuena plays every day because he's actually a decent defensive third baseman in addition to being a better baseball player than Cardenas. Cardenas needs to be able to play irregularly as a future utility guy, and that's what's happening now. This isn't difficult.

I agree, that he would ultimately be a utility guy. But my point is that he's more likely to be a utility guy for us in the future than Valbuena, so should't he be getting more reps at the positions he'd be playing as a UT guy? He barely even gets that. Yeah, Valbuena's a decent defensive guy, but decent is the key word and it doesn't strike me as being good enough to make up for his lack of offense, which he's had more than enough opportunities to improve over the past 3 years, and Cardenas has not.

What exactly makes you think Cardenas is a superior hitter?

Ah. I thought UM was drunk or something. Saw the Muskat thing yesterday but didn't put two and two together.

It's more that I think that he has a chance to be. Valbuena was once a somewhat well regarded offensive prospect but he's had enough chances to prove it. Cardenas was very highly regarded, and we know it wasn't for his glove. If ever there's a time to be auditioning guys like Cardenas and Raley, it's now, especially with the guys holding the positions in question are not likely part of the futur plan, so may as well take a look at the guys that have an outside chance to be.
