It's going to be interesting to see what happens with Vogelbach. It's pretty clear that he can hit, but what do the Cubs do if he keeps destroying each level? Trade bait? Super pinch hitter? World's fattest second baseman?

Doesn't he reportedly have quick feet for a big guy? Move him to catcher! I'm mostly kidding.

I think that's far enough down the line that we can't really know. In 3 years, maybe Rizzo's plateaued as less than we expect, maybe he's good but we can trade his last couple years of control for a real big fish, maybe he's out of baseball because his cancer came back. Moreover, here's the 2009 Cubs prospect Top 10:

Vitters

Shark

Cashner

Rhee

Castillo

Hart

Castro

Flaherty

J Jackson

HJ Lee

Which is just a long way of saying that there isn't any need to brainstorm uses for Vogelbach at the moment.

We can expect a good deal of trades involving prospects in coming years given the abundance of position players and the organizational holes that can't be addressed internally for awhile. I'm not going to be too concerned about where Vogelbach fits into the equation until he reaches at least AA and cracks a top 100.

Hope that the NL has the DH by the time he's ready or trade him in a package for King Felix or someone like that.

Kevin Hart? I remember him having nice stuff, but I had no idea he was ever that high up.

I'm actually kinda surprised how many of those are still in the system.

For being rated something like a bottom 5 system that year, it turned out quite well. Samardzija, Rizzo, Castro and a fraction of Garza all came directly from that list with Vitters and Castillo on the cusp of getting a shot at being starters.

And Lee, despite some heavy struggles to start off at AA, is still considered a top prospect.

We fired Hendry too soon. His plans were just starting to take hold.

Part of his plan was getting fired and having Theo trade for Rizzo.

Kevin Hart was the doom bringer. He sucked something fierce.

He really did. I remember when he was first called up. I believe he entered the game with the bases loaded and no out and struck out the side. Then he went back to being Kevin Hart forever.

Keith Law was at yesterday's AZL Cubs game:

@keithlaw Just homered. Loud. Not exactly off quality pitching though. "@McBomination: @keithlaw Vogelbach !"

@keithlaw Don't think so. Also not ready for full-season ball. RT @SteveJB54: @keithlaw Vogelbach seems ready for a promotion, no?

That's absolutely right. Dan should know better than to line out, full season ball guys hit extra base hits every time to the plate, not just 3 of 4.
