It's really infuriating that the Lees and the Thomes are coveted like they are, however Soriano is considered borderline worthless.

contract.

With us eating 90% of his contract, the contract shouldn't be a problem.

It's the years, not the dollars.

If we end up picking up 95-97% of the contract, who I think is more likely than 90%, the years should be virtually irrelevant if they're only picking up 3-5% of the tab.

If we have to pay 95-97% of Soriano's contract, what's the use of trading him? It makes sense to keep him and give Rizzo at least a tad of protection. That, in itself, is more valuable than the C prospects we'd likely get as a return. I think for me, at this ooint, unless we're saving at least 25% of his contract or receiving something substantial(top 10 prospect or young major leaguer), I'd rather just keep him the rest of the year. Rizzo needs something behind him more than we need a top 30ish prospect.

Geez, Loney hasn't gotten hit in a week for the Dodgers.

.626 OPS and 73 OPS+ on the season.

It looks like Carlos Lee is headed to the Marlins for Matt Dominguez and Rob Rasmussen.

That's nuts. Hopefully this is the sign of an especially aggressive trade market.

Houston was going to have to eat a lot of the money left on Lee's deal, but then they realized he had already eaten the whole thing.

I have to wonder why anyone would want Lee. He's just about a replacement level player right now, and I somehow doubt he'll rediscover his power in Miami, or would have in LA.

He somehow managed to have the second best WAR of his career last year (3.7 according to BR), so I'm guessing teams are hoping for anything resembling that (despite that he's -0.1 this year).

Caught the end of an interview on the radio with a former player, never heard who it was, who played with Lee. He said Lee is a hugely successful businessman. Has a big cattle company in Texas and other businesses back home. On his off days he'd sometimes jump on his corporate jet and take care of his companies. After hearing that, didn't surprise me at all to see him go to Miami, which is closer to his home.

I wouldn't say nuts. Dominguez cannot hit for beans. The deal is worth doing for the Astros because, well, why not? And dominguez' defense means the offensive bar for him to be a decent player is pretty low, but it's hard to see him being anything besides one of the worst-hitting 3B in the majors.
