Plus, as that article said, his pitches per appearance may be the lowest in our system, but he's swinging at strikes at an extremely good rate, and he has one of the best contact rates in our system too. So, while he's not seeing lots of pitches, he's at least been swinging at ones he should be.

i don't think walks will be an issue for him, he seems to be an aramis ramirez-type. won't take a ton of walks, but will put the ball in play effectively with consistency.

Yeah, I'm kind of leaning that way too with him.

vitters is becoming my favorite prospect.

He's certainly looking like he has AAA figured out. I kinda hope they just let him stay there the whole year and not move him up again.

There's sort of a catch 22 involved. While I would like to see him get at least a half season in thr big leagues, so we could get some idea whether or not he could be ready to contribute next year and how to proceed with Ian Stewart, I'd also like to give Ian Stewart the reast of the season, when he's healthy to to decide how to proceed with Ian Stewart, and obviously, we can't have both. In a perfect world, both can be full time contributers and Vitters is able to successfully convert to LF, and Stewart finally pulls it together when his wrist is fully healed.

I think they're going to let Vitters wail on AAA pitching as long as possible and then use him as a trade headliner this offseason. He's this offseason's Tyler Colvin, except his value is actually trending up.

Going to be hard to justify getting rid of him if there's no in-house solution at 3B.

He is not ready for half a season in the big leagues.

There's a pretty big difference in age and service time between Vitters this offseason and Colvin last offseason. Vitters seems to be at the age and time in his development where he'd be a good building piece going forward.

That's pretty much where I am. As much as I love him as a prospect, he just doesn't fit with their stated organizational offensive philosophy. His P/PA is still pretty awful.

If they trade Vitters, they better get something of equal value rather than trading him just for the sake of trading him because he's not their preferred flavor of ice cream. Because that's pretty Hendry-esque. This organization needs to acquire more young talented players who are close to being ready to contribute on the major league level, not giving the few they have away... unless we're actually on a 15 year rebuilding plan.

I see that Vitters has been making significant strides this season as far as his overall numbers go, but what has he been doing specifically that has people so excited? His season so far is reminding me of his 2009 season's numbers, but what is he doing right now that has people so impressed? Just curious.

17 walks this season after a career best, 22 last year in 170 more PAs.

same BB rate* as he had in AA, and about a quarter of his isoD is HBP's

his patience is still dreadful

*this is the same BB rate that (notorious-hacker-with-a-pretty-swing) Gordon Beckham's posting right now, too

You wouldn't take Gordon Beckham with a little more contact ability at 3b?

And significantly more power potential.

define "a little more contact"

gordon beckham has a career 86 ops+

Beckham's been a 20% K guy in his bad years. If Vitters can't keep it at 15% in the majors, then yeah he'll probably hit like Beckham.
