Really hate automatic icing. Hope the NHL doesn't start using it but I'd bet they do within a few years.

I do not get the upside of automatic icing. What percentage of plays would be called back? This is completely subjective, but it seems that there is enough plays where the icing team gets to the puck first that it adds good action to the game. Is there a lot of injuries due to the current icing rules?

Personally I think the best thing the NHL could do to add a lot of action to the game is to have icing on the PP. I think this would make the PP much more effective. Which would lead to teams committing less penalties, which would lead to a more open style of play. Just my opinion.

I think they will either go with automatic icing or they will start calling more charging penalties.

I've read about a hybrid icing but haven't bothered to figure out what that is.

Exactly. Reading between the lines from hockey writers on twitter, it sounds like it is league sources that are pumping the tires on a deal being done or very close. Probably a ploy to get it in players' minds to pressure Fehr to stop screwing around.

Funny since it was the exact opposite about a month ago.

So how do you get all these guys back from Europe in order to play? What happens to the All Star Game?

I think the All Star game was cancelled awhile back. I think most of the players playing in Europe were doing so with the understanding that they would return to the NHL once the lockout ended. Those under NHL contracts have to come back.

How do you award a Stanley Cup with a straight face?

Regular seasons (most sports) are bloated in general anyway. As long as playoffs are full length, it's just as legitimate as any other year.

I don't care much for hockey until football is over anyway. Maybe I would have watched the Winter Classic, but that would be about the time I would get interested again. This is perfect timing for me.
