If Jose Rosario becomes a bit more consistent, does he go into next season as our second best pitching prospect (besides Maples)?

Has anyone seen Rosario pitch this year. I saw him pitch for Boise last year. My memory was a real nice fastball, but he needed to work on his secondary stuff.

Gotta see what they do with the 2012 draftees.

Given guys like Johnson, Blackburn and hopefully Underwood will actually pitch this year and Maples might not, I'll have a tough time rating Maples ahead of those 3 or Rosario.

Rosario has been money his last 5 starts.

30.1 IP, 17 H, 6 ER, 27 K, 8 BB

OK, so apparently they let him pitch into the 8th inning his last start and he gave up two more runs after I posted those stats.... ugh

In his defense, the 2 runs were caused by a triple which was basically an easy flyout to CF that Pin-Chieh Chen lost in the lights. If you look in the game thread for that day, I posted quotes from his manager who said that was his best outing all year and bad luck marred the final stat line.

Why is that funny? He's 2 for 4 today and they are only in the 5th. Was just quoting the Daytona Cubs tweet btw.

I wonder how they're going to handle Szczur. In previous years, he would have been promoted around this time of year. He's of course slightly old for his level, has had 400+ plate appearances at Daytona between last year and this year, and has had good numbers this year in the offensively challenged FSL. I'm interested to see if the new regime wants him to stay there the rest of the year or not.

How old is Szczur? Want to talk about old for your league Rohan who's 4-4 tonight is 26.

I guess I'm a bit perplexed as to why Josh Vitters is playing 1B tonight. One of the few guys in Iowa who can be referred to as a prospect, defense is something they've been working on yet he's playing one of the few positions we likely wont be in need of any time soon.

Maybe they are showcasing him there for another team that needs a 1st baseman. Trade possibilities.

Szczur turns 23 next month. So not that old, but slightly older than your average top 10 type prospect in the FSL (IIRC). Plus he used his 1st of his 4? options this year, so that will play into things as well.

It's not really a big deal to get the right combination of guys in the lineup every now and then. All the reports were he made strides defensively last year, and he played 1B in 25% of his games.

He's played 1B before. One day away from 3B isn't going to stunt his defensive development. Probably somewhat of a pseudo day off for him. Jackson got the night off, Vitters gets to play what maybe a less stressful position, given that there is no DH in this game.

Agreed, plus maybe in the long run it might help him get a little more perspective defensively at 3B by playing a different position and seeing how a 1B sees a 3B play how the throws coming over look, etc.
