I put it in the game thread too, but Harper is going to win it. Stats don't look great, until you realize he's still 19.

I'm not sure the voters will necessarily look at it that way, even if they should.

The voters are usually stupid, but they'll see him as a high profile rookie on the winningest team in the NL and give it to him anyway.

That's the key. He's had a good year, especially given his age, but if he was playing on the usual Nats it wouldn't have been surprising at all for him to not get it.

The only other rookie who can give Harper a run for his money is Wade Miley.

Harper bWAR: 4.0

Harper fWAR: 4.0

Miley bWAR: 3.8

Miley fWAR: 4.3

Harper is the best positional player rookie in the national league and it's not even THAT close (Todd Frazier 2.7 fWAR is 2nd). If Harper is going ot get it it's not because he's 19 and on the best team in the majors, it's because he legitimately deserves it.

Those two things might coincide, but that doesn't mean he'll get it because he deserves it. He might just get it because the people who voted for it are stupid and voted him to win it for stupid reasons. If he happens to deserve it anyway, that doesn't mean he won it because he deserved it.

(in other words, i doubt most of the voters are going to vote for him because he leads rookies in WAR)

I completely agree with you that there will likely be a lot of votes because he's young and on a 1st place team and also has the stigma of a superstar already attached to him, but just because they may vote for him for misguided reasons doesn't make Harper the wrong decision in this scenario. If he wins the ROTY it's very easily justified and can't be chalked up to the popularity contest reason. He's been very good this year.

That being said you're right, people will vote for him for the wrong reasons... but he's conveniently one of the two right choices so if he wins it won't be a travesty against the voting system.

Now if Harper wins a gold glove....

That Cubs logo is chopped right?

Came right off his website. Kinda weird if it is. But it definitely looks like it is.

Completely irrelevant, but does anyone remember that "Farewell" video that was made for someone (forget who) who was only on the team for a short time and was completely awful and it was set to "Thanks for the Memories" by Fall Out Boy and it lasted like 4 seconds showing one picture of them making a crappy play? I wanna say Aaron Miles, but I thought it was an outfielder.

I specifically remember this for some odd reason. It was, I believe, that one kid that basically said he plagiarized and had no problem with it? Skyballer I believe was his last handle?

May be off with all of this, but I definitely remember that video. They traded for a person and then turned around and traded him like a week or so later. I don't even think he had time to be terrible.

Again, could be way off base here. But I feel I'm right so to hell with it.

ETA: Wait - was it a catcher? That sounds right?

Jody Gerut or Rob Bowen?

edit - yup, googled both "jody gerut thanks for the memories" and "rob bowen thanks for the memories"
