R.A. Dickey has thrown 25 consecutive scoreless innings

Final line: 9IP, 1H, 0BB, 0ER, 12K, 106 pitches.

A run scored in the 9th on a throwing error, followed by 2 passed balls and an RBI groundout.

In related news, this made me look up Dickey's career. I knew he'd been a decent pitcher for the past few seasons, but thought he was in his mid-late 20's, not a 37 year old journeyman. Damn, 18th overall pick in 1996.

Why the hell are there so many Tigers fans here?

You might as well ask why there are so many Detroit natives in Chicago. They are everywhere...possibly more than Wisconsinites.

The Tigers fans do this at the Cell too.

I just read on SBnation that Bill James said the most similar case to Starlin Castro's career so far is Gary Templeton. I really hope Castro doesn't go that route.

He's just reading off the top of the Baseball-Reference Similarity Scores list. I think he wrote that stat?

It's not the absolute worst comp I've heard recently (Rizzo to Ryan Howard).

From age 21-24, Templeton put up bWAR of 3.4, 2.9, 4.2 and 4.4.

Did he get hurt or something? He played in 80 games in his age 25 season, and then mysteriously lost his hit tool for the rest of his career.

After this season, he should drop down Castro's comp list. There just aren't too many 21-year-old SS's with 200-hit seasons to compare him to.

An excuse to get out of Detroit?

But if you look at his career, he was a guy that started out at age 20, and hit for a high average his first 3-4 years with a couple of 200 hit seasons. However, he never developed the power he showed flashes of at the beginning of his career, and his OBP was always very poor. The result? A career OPS+ of 87.

Starlin's power is already better than Templeton's ever was.

i had a friend ask me recently what i thought best-/likeliest-/worst-case scenarios were for Castro, and i came up with Robin Yount/Renteria/Templeton

So are they just going to ignore that Bob translated "Papa Grande" to "Big Potato" without a trace of irony?

What happened?

Cubs down 4, with 2 on, Castro hits one 900 feet that the wind knocks down and allows Jackson to catch while crashing into the ivy. Soriano would have flown to the track anyway so I guess it's irrelevant.
