Damn, Giolito signs for less than $3M. Still a sick recruiting class for UCLA.

Appel officially doesn't sign.

Yeah, sorry Raisin. Little surprised he signed for that, kind of thought Nats would wind up losing picks for him, even if they said they weren't going to.

How many first rounders didn't sign?

Just Appel.

“Our final offer exceeded the available bonus pool money and was essentially up to the last dollar we could offer prior to falling into the second tier penalty which would have resulted in the loss of a first round draft selection," Huntington said. "While, as we have shown in past years, we are willing to be aggressive with our financial offer, we simply did not feel it was in the best interest of the organization to forfeit our first round selection in the 2013 amateur draft."

Can't complain with a probable top-3 recruiting class, up there with Stanford and Vandy.

Hunter Virant

James Kaprielian

Felipe Perez

Cody Poteet

Ty Moore

Darrell Miller

Aaron Porter (if he plays baseball and football).

They did the right thing. Appel wasn't worth losing a first rounder over.

So what are Appel's options? Go back to Stanford, or indy league?

His tweets say he's going back to Stanford.

Yeah. As it stands right now, he's a top 5 pick next year. Callis said he'd pick him #1, I wouldn't. I'd rather have Kris Bryant, Ryne Stanek or Karsten Whitson and possibly prep OF Austin Meadows (don't know much about him but he's been discussed as a possible 1.1 guy in 2013).

He's a son of a big time lawyer and Stanford isn't your usual school but let's see if Boras leads him to an independent league.

What would that mean in terms of his MLB future? Would he have to play a year there and then be able to become a free agent at some point?

Nah, he'd go back in the draft next year either way. His choices are go back for his senior year, like, say Matt LaPorta, or go independent leagues like Luke Hochevar.

"@serial66: @MAppel26 Follower of Christ?? Follower of Almighty Dollar. Boras screwed u out of $6 mil. You didn't impress me anyways. Happier w #9 pick"

"@CurtIDontPanick: @MAppel26 you're a [expletive] piece of [expletive]. Why didn't you sign with BucN. Worst mistake you could have made. Break your arm dick."

The sweetest irony would probably be if Appel's high contract demands again have him fall to the 9th pick and the Pirates select him again and can't meet his demands and he doesn't sign.

He'd have to approve the Pirates re-drafting him.

Really stupid question...so if you fail to sign your first rounder, you get the pick back the basically the same slot(1 higher) the next year, well what if, you fail to sign the player you drafted again, does it roll over another year?
