where do you guys get the up to the most recent PA minor league stats?

AA and AAA games have Game Tracker which has up-to-date OPS only. Otherwise, you have to wait a few hours after the game for stats to update.

Vitters OPS up to .822.

i can't imagine that he'd be up with the big club before september, so it will actually be nice to have him stay at one level, so we can see if this is just a hot streak or the result of real adjustments. seems like every other year he gets hot for like 3 weeks, the cubs spaz out and move him up a level.

And even if this turns into an extended streak, there will be worries that it is PCL-fueled.

i wouldn't worry too much about that. yeah, the PCL is a hitter's league, but iowa isn't a hitter's park and the average ops in the league is probably around .775. people really overstate how much the PCL inflates numbers, except for teams like albuquerque and las vegas.

I feel sorry for the folks on this site that don't follow this side of it all. Has to be hard if the major league team is all you pay attention to.

I never came to this section prior to this year. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

@Kevin_Goldstein All your weird outrage over the Baez plunking has created a podcast agenda item, so there's that. Even his own manager seemed fine with it.

@Kevin_Goldstein Very much so. RT @TheShaneB @Kevin_Goldstein aside from the plunking incident, were you impressed with Baez tonight?

@Kevin_Goldstein Will move to third, but be good there. RT @sahadevsharma @Kevin_Goldstein thoughts on Baez' D?

It's still a huge difference from all the other leagues. Iowa is 11th right now in OPS out of 16 with a .765. They'd be leading the Southern League by 45 points, the FSL by 3 points, and the Midwest League by 14 points.

To look at it another way, the median OPS in the PCL is .777. The median in the majors is .720, in the Southern League it's .700, in the FSL it's .685, and in the Midwest League it's .686. And it's not just a Triple A effect either as the International League median is .696. The numbers from the PCL shouldn't be ignored, but it's really hard to adjust PCL stats because the league is so different than all the others.

Iowa gives up 7 in the 7th and are down 11-8 with Brett Jackson leading off the 8th. Our pitching in our system is such a disgrace.

Meh. The runs were off Ryan Rowland-Smith and Mike MacDougal.

Overlooked in all the other goodness is a double and a triple for Arismendy.

Since when does swinging 3-0 make it OK to drill someone?

when it's an 11 run lead.

like it or not, swinging for the fences on a 3-0 pitch when you're leading in a blowout is frowned upon, and if you're going to do that, you'd better be willing to get drilled.

I hope Baez's response was that he'll do whatever the [expletive] he wants.

Seriously. Well Baez, you can't do what you would in other at bats to get better in this developmental league because today's opponent couldn't do a got dang thing right. Screw that, Baez should go deep and somersault to touch each base tomorrow.

The correct answer was our pitching is not a disgrace. While we don't seem to have anyone with ace potential, we have a multitude potential late relievers and back end starters, which works for me if we can fill out the front of the front of the rotation other ways.

maybe among the cub-affiliated leagues. The southern league and FSL are pitchers leagues and the MWL sure plays like one early in the year. The texas league and California league are much more favorable for hitters. The PCL is not unique.

Really? I'm surprised.

No, I think we really need to find at least one TOR starter from within the system. Right now, I'm not confident at all we even have one legit longterm 4/5 in the system. If we do, it's someone a ways away, like Wells or Maples. Both of who conceivably could be much more or much less. But we've got 5 picks or so, the IFA signing period, and some potential trade chips to change a bigtime weakness into a strength inside the next two months. But for now, I'm not sold on McNutt and definitely not anyone else right now to where I'd pencil them in for a SP role on our major league squad.

Tayler Scott got roughed up for the third consecutive outing down in Extended Spring Training. I imagine Scott is staying in Mesa when the short season leagues start. Marco Hernandez 1/4 with a double, Dustin Geiger 1/3 with a double, Dong-Yub Kim was 2/2 with a double, Danny Lockhart 2/3 with a triple and Justin Marra 1/3 with a triple.

Also I find the bolded comment very promising from Arizona Phil:

With six more players having been sent back to the Cubs Dominican Academy from Extended Spring Training this week, only five "graduates" of the 2011 Dominican Summer League (DSL) remain at Fitch Park: RHP Jose Arias, 3B Jeimer Candelario, SS Carlos Penalver, OF-1B Xavier Batista, and OF Jeffry Baez.

X. Batista spent the 2010 season in the U. S. (EXST and AZL Cubs) before being sent back to the DSL in 2011, and Baez is rehabbing a broken wrist suffered when he dove for a ball in an EXST game last month. I don't know if Baez will be remaining in the U. S. (at AZL Cubs) or if he will be going back to the Dominican Academy when he returns to the active list.

The DSL kids who remain at Extended Spring Training are certainly the "cream of the crop," but even so it appears that the Cubs are now taking a more conservative approach with promoting players from their two DSL teams to the AZL Cubs and Boise than in the past. We'll have to see how often players are moved up to the AZL Cubs and/or Boise from the DSL during the course of the 2012 season (DSL Opening Day was today).

Disappointing news on Baez.

Hopefully Rosario's last two starts aren't a fluke.

He has had nice peripherals on the season (66 K/23 BB in 65 IP with a 3.62 FIP going into today's start) and his stuff matches the strikeout rate.

He had 2 great starts before his horrible May 23rd start which killed his ERA.

Javier Baez swings at a 3-0 pitch and gets one in the ribs with the next pitch. Welcome to pro ball, kid.

i appreciate that other teams are using more extreme methods to help us instill plate discipline into our prospects

it is so fun having a farm system

Imagine being a White Sox fan...

At least the other 29 teams will now draft more similarly to them.
