Why the hell would anyone hate Ryan Dempster?

I do hate his shtick. And I didn't really like him much before he got good, so that lingers. But I don't really dislike him now.

Clevenger is that guy in slow pitch who hits line drives to either side of you no matter where you're positioned.

I realize this is petty and I should be a better person and fan than this, but, as irrational as I know it is, I simply cannot forgive Dempster for the game1 performance against the Dodgers in the playoffs. No, it wasn't entirely his fault. Yes the team didn't score much for him and yes I do like him as a ballplayer. However, the team needed a big time performance in that game from him. To come out so small, so nervous, so wild.....after a season of so much hope. I simply can't look past that. I know the issue is entirely mine and I may be alone. To me, the guy is a #3 at best.

You can hate someone as a player and like them as a person. e.g. 2012 kerry wood.

To come out so small, so nervous

Whut.

People aren't kidding with the irrational thing.

Like I said, it is entirely me and it may be completely irrational. Someone asked the question, I answered. He went less than 5 innings and gave up 7 walks and 4er. The team needed an ace right there and this was the best he could do.

Fair enough. The "so small, so nervous" thing is weird, but whatever.

Yes. His goofy and bad comedy routine in almost every interview. And his terrible impression of Will Ferrell doing Harry Caray (not entirely his fault as it seems he's asked to do it a lot).

Well - I did say my hatred was irrational but a lot of it is because of game 1 too. And as someone else said, his schtick.

But mainly, it is because the media loves him. No one threw him under the bus last year when he argued with Quade in Pittsburgh. No one went after him when he foolishly hurt himself jumping over a fence a few years back. Kaplan loves him. So their love for him seems to impact their treamtent of him. Meanwhile, they couldn't write and say enough bad things about other members of past teams who were pretty darn productive as players.

Now, with that said, I have felt very sorry for him this year. He is one of the few Cubs doing his job at a high level.
