Yeah, yeah, I looked him up, too. Letting him in would be a wet duck fart. Borrrrrrrrrring. Not as lame as letting Dawson in, but close. Edited by Sammy Sofa

For, like, three months.

it still amazes me that he went from completely washed up trash that all of us were pissed about them signing to somehow donging all over the place and putting up a 900 OPS

Jim Edmonds?

He'd be one of the poster boys for the "Hall of Very Good" thing.

He was the best defensive CF of his generation and his offensive numbers are good enough, not many CF have a career ops of .900. I don't think people realize how good he was because he played for the Angles for so long.

Was he better in CF than Griffey and Hunter (who a lot of his career overlapped with Edmonds)?

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought the advanced stats say Edmonds wasn't that great in CF he just made a lot of highlight reel/SportsCenter highlight plays so that's what we remember and a lot of the balls he had to make highlight plays on better fielders get to easier and not having to make such plays.

Scott Rolen was the first player I can remember really wanting the Cubs to acquire/being old enough to follow and understand FA/Trades.

He did get overrated a tad because of the highlights, but he always graded out quite well until the last 2-3 years of his career when he was old as hell.

I really wanted us to get Luis Castillo or a Jose Vidro and Javy Vazquez package

My ironclad theory is that so many of his highlight plays were him having to correct his dumbassery in terms of his routes, tracking and general positioning. And defensive metrics are sorcery. THIS IS ALL SOUND. LET IT BE KNOWN.

in fact i probably discussed it with a bunch of you on the ESPN boards

It took me a long time to figure out that big time FA was something the Cubs were allowed to participate in on a regular basis. For the longest time it seemed like unless it was extending a player they already had (sometimes; losing Maddux like they did at the young age I was just instilled in me a sense that these guys were likely to be gone) or lucking in to the Dawson situation, the Cubs just didn't do such a thing.

We were all pissed that Hendry was doing anything he could to block Felix Pie and then he put up a OPS in Chicago that would've led the league if taken by itself. It was like we'd stolen the pixie dust formula. That was fun.

I wish I could somehow leverage into monetary gain the disconnect between the Giants being co-WS favorites with us and how good the Giants actually are. Let me be the house on that bet, pretty please.
