Dodgets are a great trading partner for Dempster. Any of Chris Reed, Allen Webster, and Garrett Gould immediately become our best pitching prospect. All 3 of those guys are top 150ish guys. Ofman just tweeted price may have gone up from Gould and Chris Withrow, by the way. Withrow or Ethan Martin would both be a very solid second piece. Both throw hard, have some control issues, but loads of talent. Each were 1st rounders, for those that may care about that stuff.

I would LOVE Gould and Martin.

@MLBSportsReport: #Dodgers have proposed a trade for #Cubs starter Ryan Dempster. Dempster will not make his scheduled start tomorrow.

Wonder if this is actual information or just putting together the information we've already gotten tonight.

RT @Kevin_Goldstein

Not just for Dempster. RT @JakeBartelson: @Kevin_Goldstein seems like Zach Lee is being discussed in trade talks to Cubs

CubsInNC posted in the minor-league forum yesterday, was at the Peoria game, said there were Dodgers scouts there. Rosario was pitching, so he could have been viewed as a significant piece. Although he wrecked his arm in the game, so he's almost certainly out of the equation now. Although CubsinNC said

Whoever it is, it's not a pitcher, no gun.

If it's not an arm, and it's not Baez, then the only decent prospects they would be considering would be Geiger, DeVoss, Zapata and maybe Easterling.

If the Cubs got Chris Reed back in this deal, I'd be thrilled.

Folks claiming @Plesac19 just said Ryan Dempster *will not* start tomorrow on MLBN. Did anyone actually hear him say this? & was it certain?

Same here. In fact, I think I'd take Martin over Reed, if I had to.

I'll take Reed's better control. Gould is younger, but I dont know if he's better though. Martin's stuff is better, and his control is better this season, but he's a year older than Reed.

Am I missing something on these guys' scouting reports such that you'd take Martin over Reed?

From a talent standpoint, I like Reed a ton. But he was a reliever in college and the Dodgers are trying to turn him into a starter. But despite low pitch counts from them, he's alrwady been on the DL twice this year with shoulder problems.

Yes, that was said on MLB Network.

they just said that the dodgers are putting together a package, and that the cubs have called up a minor leaguer to start tomorrow, and that it will be done soon, coming down to "the package"

Gould is definitely better than Reed.

I'd take Martin over Reed myself (but I might be in the minority) because I don't think Reed will successfully remain a starting pitcher. Martin has better stuff and is more likely to be a starter.

Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal

Source: #Braves have spoken only of general scenarios with #Cubs about Dempster without getting real specific. However . . .

Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal

I'm not sure how much to read into that. If #Cubs fail to reach deal with one team, they could turn to another. #Braves have deep system.

Damnit, I'm hoping ABTY was right and Braves had a "winning" type offer and we're trying to appease Dempster in getting him to the Dodgers, if they move theirs up.

sounds like the trade will be reported tomorrow morning based on all the different reports. Sounds like it's getting really close, it will be the Dodgers, and it will be a good return.

@Kevin_Goldstein Interesting: Source indicates Cubs are targeting pitching "that could be in Wrigley this year" from Dodgers - which leaves me confused.

Come oooonnn Eovaldi

Curses. So fast, this guy.

Someone fill me in on Eovaldi, please.

Eovaldi or Rubby would be unreal. Hopefully, it's not Fife. My guess is they want Tolleson included, which would be fine. Just not as the lead piece.

BA's #96 prospect this year. Throws really hard. About MLB ready at 22 years old. Performance has lagged his stuff a little bit. IMO, a guy with the tools to really take off if a different organization/coaching staff can see the right tweak or two.

2. Nathan Eovaldi, RHP

DOB: 2/13/90

Height/Weight: 6'3/195

Bats/Throws: R/R

Drafted/Signed: Eleventh round, 2008, Alvin HS (TX)

2011 Stats: 2.62 ERA (103.0-76-46-99) at AA (20 G), 3.63 ERA (34.2-28-20-23) at MLB (10 G)

Tools Profile: Power arm but limited arsenal.

Year in Review: He took advantage of weaknesses at the upper levels by pitching well at Double-A and ending the year in the big leagues.

The Good: Eovaldi's calling card is a 92-96 mph fastball that touched 98-99 when he pitched out of the bullpen. His upper-80s slider can be a wipeout offering at times, and he has some feel for a changeup.

The Bad: There is some effort to Eovaldi's delivery, and he does himself no favors by falling behind in the count and racking up high pitch counts. His changeup still needs improvement. While he has plenty of velocity, he loses movement on the pitch the harder he throws it.

Ephemera: Double-A batters hit .308 in 65 at-bats against Eovaldi with runners in scoring position and two outs but just .181 in all other situations.

Perfect World Projection: Number-three starter or late-inning reliever.

Key word here is "could". It's really not saying much. Probably why KG is confused.

Ragardless, I'll be very surprised if Dempster starts for us tomorrow. Teams don't line up two replacements for a guy when a trade's a possibility. They do it when they're hammering our the final details.
