Cubs fans asking who they are getting WITH Webster, when I'd still be really surprised to see Webster included.

Dempster Not Yet Officially Traded!

Does that mean he's unofficially traded?

He was unofficially traded a week ago for Delgado. That still makes me sad.

Here's a scenario... it's a tough one to evaluate because we don't know what another team may have given us for Maholm, but what if we get a package like we expected from LA (say Gould and Withrow) for Dempster and got Vizcaino for Maholm...and what if the Braves wouldn't have traded Vizcaino for Maholm after having given up Delgado for Dempster.

Would you rather have

A - Delgado for Dempster and mystery package of what could reasonably be expected (are there a lot of buy low opportunities on top prospects like Vizcaino on other teams who would want him?) for Maholm

or

B - Dempster for Gould and Withrow and Maholm for Vizcaino

Just asking for the sake of discussion... I'm not really sure what I'd answer. I never expected to get a piece as nice as Vizcaino for Maholm.

Kevin Goldstein @Kevin_Goldstein

My understanding is that the Cubs really want Webster and are trying to add to Dempster in order to get him. Deal not done yet.

KG slowly turning into Jon Heyman?

No agreement yet in Ryan Dempster negotiations. Hardball going on with less than 3 hours before deadline.

I'll be honest, pretty much any return is going to be kind of disappointing after Delgado.

Can I get a scouting report on Webster?

Can I get a scouting report on Webster?

Webster's fastball is a special pitch, as it's a natural sinker with low-to-mid 90s velocity and plenty of sink. He has a plus changeup that he'll throw at any point in the count and a simple delivery that is easily repeatable, leading to plenty of strikes.

I actually thought about this scenario a little earlier. I really like Delgado, moreso than Vizcaino (more of a sure thing, a certain starter vs Vizcaino being questionable to stick) so I'd probably take most any scenario where Delgado was included. It really depends on what else was out there for Maholm though.

2. Allen Webster (RHP)

Webster was a later round pick out of a North Carolina high school and he signed for only $20,000 in 2008. He could reach the big leagues in 2012 despite some struggles at Double-A in 2011. His fastball ranges from 90-94 mph with plus sink and he can reach back for 96 and 97 mph when he needs it. While his change-up earns grades as his best pitch at times, some scouts really like his slider and curveball as well. He has shown solid command in the past though it still comes and goes throughout his starts. When everything is working properly Webster shows the potential of a number two starter with both plenty of ground balls and strikeouts.
