Brett Jackson has 2 doubles. In the first inning. Rizzo and Vitters have singles as well.

As of inning 5, Jackson (4-4) has boosted his slash stats to a robust .269/.367/.462.

3 of those hits came off a lefty.

Edit: Coming up in the 6th with 2 out and the bases loaded.

Jackson with a bunt single and an IF hit. Now 4-4 with 3 runs and 2 RBIs.

Vitters and Rizzo both 1-3

Don't forget Cardenas 2-3 with 3 RBI. His bandwagon sure is lonely.

I'm still on it (though I haven't been on here to proclaim it really). He could still be a very useful major league player. I actually think he'd be a nice 2 hole hitter or maybe a guy who can hit in the 7th spot and give you some offense down there. I wonder if Stewart keeps struggling the way he has if Cardenas gets first crack at 3b?

Junior Lake 1/6 with a single, 3 Ks and a CS. He also played 7 innings at shortstop. Rob Whitenack threw 3 no-hit innings.

Javier Baez was 0/3 with 2 Ks.

Arizona Phil on Whitenack:

JACE: It will probably be a matter of getting his innings-per-game up to five and his pitch-count up into the 75-80 pitch range.

So far he has been outstanding in his five starts (0.00 ERA, 0.67 WHIP, .139 OppBA - 9 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K), but he hasn't thrown more than three innings (first time today) or 40 pitches (also today) in a game yet.

He was at AA Tennessee when he hurt his elbow.

If nothing else, he could make Baker, Barney or Dewitt expendable for a team looking to add depth at the deadline.

It also raised his BABIP about 40 points from ~.275 to ~ .315.

Baker and DeWitt make Baker and DeWitt expendable, and if anyone wanted Barney enough to make it worth trading him they should do it regardless of who's waiting in the wings. As long as he's cheap, there's no reason to trade him just to trade him because if nothing else he'd be a great utility IF.

I don't think we'd get fair return on Barney, and I don't think we'd get anything for DeWitt. I'm fine trading Baker for a live arm.
