Doh... posted this in the transactions thread for the Montero/Pineda swap just now.

Oh well. What's the ratio of pitchers who have successfully recovered form shoulder surgery? Not good, correct?

Phil Hughes is sucking again; unless Andy Pettite is chilling in the fountain of youth or has discovered a time machine, the Yankees may very well be in the market for an SP come the deadline. I would speculate that Garza might be able to fetch one of the two Bs (Betances / Benuelos) and maybe a lesser prospect; I doubt you'd get both of the Bs and/or Sanchez, Bichette Jr., those kind of guys.

Not worth it.

Do you the Yankees have any collection of prospects that would be worth dangling Garza for?

Betances, Banuelos, Sanchez?

mason williams

He's going to be widely considered their best prospect by midseason.

That's already happening....Great name for a Yankee prospect....Also like Angelo Gumbs, but he probably needs another one or two years before the hype.

Banuelos is good stuff too so Williams is going to be a big deal. Really looks like a stud....

Yeah, I had a 90% labral tear and while I certainly didn't have Dr. Andrews doing the surgery, I had a really good doc and my shoulder is screwed and has been for 15 years. You lose so much flexibility because of the way they have to put everything back together that it's really pretty tough to regain the velocity you had pre-surgery. Sucks for them that they gave up the bat they did to get him. That may end up being a complete swindle by the Mariners, not that they did anything shady.

wow, you guys like Mason Williams a lot more than i do

if there are any differences between he and Ben Revere at age 20, i'm not sure i see them

Size, with Mason being 3-5 inches taller? Age when drafted out of HS? Both irrelevant?

Not for nothing I think your injury is worse than his.

I managed to dislocate my throwing shoulder 7 times, 2-3 after surgery. Balls.

Ben Revere at age 20 was (similarly) putting up huge BA's in single-A, and even hitting XBHs more frequently than Williams; speedy OF is actually a relative area of depth in our system, too - so move over, Matt Szczur, somebody even slappier's in town!

getting a 150 lb. project OF as the main prize for Garza might just make me physically ill

Slappy 150 lb. project sounds a bit like Starlin Castro circa 2009. Just sayin.

I think you underestimate being bigger and younger...Revere was 19 or just about 19 when he was drafted out of HS (I'll try to find the article on age and HS/draft prospects). Williams is straight up a more interesting prospect....Saw the stats and didn't say Revere had a bad season at 20 or anything (good for him there, i guess). Don't think anyone said a thing about Williams headlining a Garza trade either.

You can find a hundred guys with similar numbers...there's more to it than that and things like age, height, and other physical attributed ARE stats as well, often pretty relevant ones.

no, it doesn't; when Starlin was Mason Williams' age, he was already in the big leagues, and showing more power

it actually sounds more like the "future Manny Ramirez" Jose Tabata; still waiting on him to fill out...

(also, take Starlin off SS and put him in the OF, and you're left with Jon Jay right now, basically)

You don't see the difference between a 150 lb Dominican 19 year old and a 150 lb US 20 year old?
