Really? Dempster? This season is not starting out too hot, is it?

At lease it wasn't on a shoulder or elbow.

Hopefully he'll be fine and ready to help out the team at the trade deadline.

Of course Dempster is hurt. :banghead:

I don't see why you're so upset about it. It's not like Dempster being healthy or not was make or break for this season, anyway. We were going to suck with or without him.

Well said but this could hurt his July trade value. This team is going to suck with or without him but a healthy Dempster at least has the potential to help build for the future.

Who said anything about make or break? It sucks as a fan of Dempster. It sucks as a fan of the Cubs (winning at all). It sucks for his trade value.

Man, they really might lose 100 games if injuries start piling up.

I think they lose 100 no matter what. There isn't enough offense on this team. The pitching overall is fairly good, but if you can't hit and score runs you aren't going to win often.

If Dempster is hurt for a period of time things are really going to be bleak. The Cubs need him in the rotation to obviously win games, but they also need him there for trade bait.

I don't think the pitching is "fairly good" myself. This team is brutal.

Exactly. I am pretty sure the Cubs have the worst bullpen in the majors.

Are they just ignoring the fact that Travis Wood is a better pitcher than Randy Wells?

There's a decent chance of building up some value with Wells and trading him, so I imagine that's why he gets the first call. I doubt they are in a rush to bring up any of the young talent in the minors.

Edit: Before I get a comment about Wells sucking or something along those lines, there are a lot of teams looking for pitching. Heck, John Lannan has gotten a fair amount of interest, and he's not better than Wells. At 2.7 million, if Wells strings together a few decent starts, it's not impossible that some team might take a look early and hope that he finds his form from two seasons ago.

Oh, well they're not.

When you look at their staff as a whole, starters included, it's not awful. Yes the team as a whole is brutal but they have a solid 1-3 starting rotation.

Yes the bullpen and offense is terrible, but Demspter, Garza, and Shark are pretty good.

Shark is not pretty good. He's had a couple of good starts and a bad start. He will have to be extremely efficient to have a chance at being decent. The second and third time around the line up teams are going to tee off on him.

#Cubs DL Dempster, call up Campana. Another move Sunday to get Wells on roster. Whither Byrd?

Well that's kind of interesting. Hoyer sure does love his fancy roster manueverings.

I kind of hope Byrd has been playing hurt and just hasn't told anyone. It would at least explain his sucking this year. They need to make another move by tomorrow for Wells.
