Baker never touched it, so it's not an error...

That's annoying, that was a horrible defensive play and looking at the box score you will never know it.

Yea not sure I get the worrying about using Demps here.

Yeah, he hasn't had to pitch from the stretch since the third inning, it's not overly cold or hot, and he's just now hitting 100 pitches.

Dempster is old, it's cold and it's Opening Day. If you don't pull him at 92, he's probably throwing 110 or so, and there's just no need for that. The whole bullpen is fresh and we've got an off day tomorrow.

It's not egregious, it just seems a poor choice to me.

On June 1st it isn't egregious, on opening day it is. It's unnecessary macho BS, just like the "if you make a mistake make it an aggressive mistake" nonsense.

Not all pitch counts are created equal. He's been on autopilot for the better part of 2 hours. I'd have had no problem going to Wood(or even Russell and Wood with the PH), but I really think there's little worry about Dempster overextending himself at this point unless he goes to 125 pitches or something.

So what kind of odds would it have been that there was a 10k pitcher in this game and it wasn't Strasburg.

I was just thinking the same thing. No way I would've guessed 10k's for Dempster today.

On the other hand, I love Sveum's willingness to pull Dempster here. I don't know if it's a matchup thing or if he had a certain pitch total in ind, but he didn't feel like he had to let him finish the inning out of machoness or veteran deference.

Probably about the same that a pitcher would take a no-hitter into the seventh yesterday but it wasn't Josh Johnson.

Great outing by Dempster. Murray should be one of select few to sit in the booth after the stretch.

Dude should be a full time color guy.

I remember last years "not all pitch counts are created equal" thread with Garza and his complete games to end the year. Same kind of thing...Dempster's was cruising....I LIKED seeing him get the 8th.
