Has anyone been watching Hard Knocks? Philbin seems like a joke to me....

Philbin won't last. I hate the fact how he's trying to run a airtight strictass Belichek program with a young inexperienced team. He's gotta loosen up a little...

The Redskins have released tight end Chris Cooley after eight seasons with the team.

Any interest? I like him and think he's better than Davis at least. We'd have to cut Spaeth, unless we wanted to send Rodriguez packing, which I can't see happening.

He's missed like 20 games in 3 years. He's less than durable.

Well yeah, I live in an area where the Redskins are king. But my guess is he's going to take a small one year deal somewhere to reprove himself. If he did stay healthy, he'd be a nice weapon for us, in my mind. If not, we've still got Davis, who I don't see as a longterm fix for us anyway.

I can't get past hating ties.

I open to overtime if there's a good way to do it. I'm just not super convinced there is a good way.

I've never understood why football does this differently than pretty much every other sport. If it's tied after regulation, play another period. If it's still tied, repeat. Doesn't seem that complicated to me.

Well all sports do it differently. Plus there's very obvious reasons why they don't do it that way (it would be a horrible idea). Basketball scores change every 20 seconds, football does not. Timing for television is paramount for the entire business plan of the NFL. The equivalent of 19 inning games is an impossible thought for football, both for timing of the game, and the physical ability to have the players play.

Am I missing the obvious reasons that a football game going 5 or 6 quarters would be a disaster when the current rules easily allow for a game to go 5? If you're really hung up on players playing the extra minutes, you can make overtime periods 8 minutes or something, that's not really the point. The worry for an insanely long game like the 19 inning game is a pretty silly one compared to having such a short season hinge on a tie or a flawed sudden death system. How many games go to those extreme extra innings out of the 2430 MLB games in a year? How many NFL games out of the 256 each year would go beyond 1-2 OTs? Maybe 1 or 2? And that's reason to stick to the awful sudden death or bizarro sudden death format(in the playoffs) they have now?

I think the fear is that 8 quarter game between two bad offenses, which turns into a 3 or 4 week hangover.

Same theory on why hockey reg season games don't just play on.

Sudden death isn't awful and the people who get their panties in a bunch about it are misguided.

You also completely missed the entire point and glossed over the problems with how a football game would be played under NBA rules. The rules don't "easily allow" for a game to go 5 quarters. It's actually kind of hard to do.

I am warming to the idea of eliminating overtime. I would also be ok with playing 1 extra period, no sudden death and if it ends in a tie, it's a tie.

The FG proposal is asinine. Not sure I like his holding/contact rule change.
