webb is tice's boy, his diamond in the rough, he's staked his career on the dude.

His diamond in the rough isn't good at anything related to football unfortunately.

I don't understand what it means for a team to be committed to a player anyway, in NFL terms.

If he doesn't perform he'll find his way out of the league pretty quick, and the Bears will do something else.

How can you tell lo pan?

because they aren't moving webb. maybe they think carimi really isn't going to be alright. they are moving williams as insurance, not to start him.

everything they've said has led me to believe that webb is the guy. webb is tice's boy, his diamond in the rough, he's staked his career on the dude. i'll believe that williams will be the starting left tackle when i see it.

they may not be moving Webb, but where could they move him?

I thought maybe you had heard Tice say Webb was the starter.

I actually do think Jeffery shows explosion out of his breaks. At least considering his size, and definitely much more explosion than he shows when running in a straight line. He does a really good job pushing off and creating a larger window for the QB to throw in. If he can get away with that in the NFL, he's going to be tough to stop.

I'm really starting to get excited about him. My concern is still if he is too much like Marshall, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I love our QB.

He reiterates all of our O-line concerns and even manages to get a dig in there at Martz. I don't think he was malicious about any of it either....just honest...

"The offensive line is definitely going to be a concern,'' Cutler said Monday, "and seeing where those guys fit in and seeing what five we go with. You know, if Gabe (Carimi) comes back, if J'Marcus (Webb) pans out (and) Chris Williams, where we're going to put him … there are some question marks there. Until we really get that resolved, get our front five settled, we've got some work to do on the offense.''

He was asked if the switch from Mike Martz's complex offense to a different system under new offensive coordinator Mike Tice could alleviate pressure on the line.

"It helps,'' Cutler said. "It's not a cure-all by any means. They're still going to be asked to protect. There are going to be times it's third-and-8, it's third-and-10, we're going to have to take seven steps, we're going to have to have a longer route, and they're going to have to protect.''

Jay is awesome.

Hardly a dig on Martz, just honesty

Those aren't mutually exclusive, but I'm not interested in a debate on it.

Tice is a fine offensive line coach to say he's staked his career on Webb is a bit much.

It's beyond a bit much, it's ludicrous.

The only hint that they view Williams as a swing tackle is because Biggs wrote that they should. It would be beyond an incredibly stupid decision to make him a swing tackle, so I am going to assume they don't, because they can't be that dumb.

Swing tackle isn't even a position though so people really need to stop talking about it. It's the just a lineman who isn't good enough to start, a backup.

he's staked his future on him. he needs webb to pay off.

everything lovie has said indicates that webb is their guy. they are happy with him. i certainly hope that williams will be the left tackle, but if they are so high on webb, it could be assumed that they are the ones who are ludicrous in the first place and everything must go.

He's hardly stake his future on him. Webb could never play in another NFL games, the Bears could have a tremendous season and Tice would become a hot coaching commodity. They've said a lot of nice things about Webb, they've said a lot of nice things about a lot of not very good players who have been replaced as soon as possible. They gave him a shot, he sucks. If they are moving Williams to tackle it is so he can take back his old job, not to ride the bench.

Lovie has said things like this before when there was no clear or better alternative : "Rex is our QB". I think its just lip service. I'd be willing to bet Lovie isn't saying "Webb is our guy" at the moment. He said that all season when Tice was trying his best to get Webb to pan out, it doesnt mean hes married to Webb nor is Tice. They preach continuity more any particular player.

at lease I'm hoping upon hope.

One thing's for sure, WR was definitely ADDRESSED this offseason.

No one can say the Bears didn't attempt to acquire targets for their QB. Protection? Maybe not so much. But definitely targets.

Jeffery looks slim and fit. That's what I like to see.

Yeah I am really excited to see what he does this year.

Speaking of him being slim. I caught a clip from Chicago Tribune Live where they were talking about Jeffery. The guests were talking about how he had been looking good so far. Kaplan's one addition to the conversation was something along the lines of "Yeah but he showed up fat and out of shape at the combine. You would think on the most important job interview of your life you could at least get in shape." Don't let the fact that he did show up in shape get in the way of a good rant against players you apparently don't like there Kaplan.

Yeah Jeffrey weighed in at 216 pounds at the scouting combine. Does Kapman ever not talk out of his arse?

i noticed that, and checked it out, too. he didn't participate in much at the combine, which is what kaplan was most likely incorrectly referencing. at least he got the player and sport right.
