bears set to announce preseason schedule shortly

First game is vs Manning.

Bears vs Broncos

Bears vs Redskins

Bears @ NYG

Bears @ Browns

Should be an interesting pre-season. Might hear Jay Cutler's name 2 or 3 times this preseason. Broncos game will be all about Peyton. Skins game all about RG3. Giants game all about defending SB MVP, Eli. Cutler won't play vs. Cleveland, most likely. I'd imagine the Broncos and Giants games would be nationally televised.

"Right now, Amobi is trying to decide which direction he is going," Emery said. "We've had conversations with him. So far, we have not been able to work out a deal. Amobi is probably going in a different direction."

Is this guy any good?

His stats look nice as a part time player. I think if anything this indicates that the first two picks of the upcoming draft will NOT be CB.

WR and DE in the first two rounds, after that its BPA.

i can see the wisdom in picking another WR in the 1st. offense can compensate for an aging defense by keeping it off the field, and then can carry a team while it rebuilds the d. i've changed my mind, if wright is there in the first when you pick, you take him.

What made you come around? That he showed better speed at his pro day?

DE and WR are both needs, but I also think there will be chances in later rounds to fill both spots. If Wright or Floyd is there you take them because their also BPA, but I think we could find ourselves in a strong position to trade down and add value, maybe pick up an additional pick in the top 75ish range.

the speed thing is most of it. i have doubts about a slow receiver being able to do anything in the nfl. he's obviously not slow.

if we could trade down and still get jenkins in the 2nd or 3rd, i'd be real happy. if we trade our first round pick, though, we better be getting some real value, like, i'm talking a 3rd and a 4th.

He was once one of the top OGs in the game. He's been maybe average the last couple years. That doesn't include 2011, because he missed the entire season. He actually just turned 32 yesterday, so best case scenario is he got his back straightened up with the surgery last offseason and he can give you a solid year.

Interesting is that he's a LG. There have been rumors that have been squashed a few times that Chris Williams would be moving back to LT to compete with Webb. Makes me wonder if that may be true if they sign Steinbach. The Bears have almost literally looked at no OTs this offseason.

So he wasn't asking for a ton of money. Not sure what happened here, but it feels like we blew it. Unless Okoye just didn't like it here.

I think what happens in these situations is that a player feels that his current team should give him a multi-year deal, so when they don't offer the player "sticks it to them" by taking a similar deal that's being offered by a different team. Basically, 1-year 2 Mil from a team that you outperformed your contract for is seen differently than 1-year, 2 Mil deal from a team you never played for. Players feel they should get rewarded for what they've done rather than what they will do.

With the signings of Hayden and Willhite, the miss of Okoye, I see the Bears probably going D Line with 2 of their top 3 picks, with WR being the other. Probably sign a Steinbach type as O Line depth and draft another developmental guy late. It'd be great if we could get McNeill cheap, on a "prove you're healthy" type deal though.

First round must be BPA at this point

Looking at the roster, the Bears return 20 of their 22 starters who started the opening game last year. The 2 that are replaced are Chris Harris with Chris Conte and Roy Williams with Brandon Marshall. So, I think the Bears will go into the draft looking for depth, starting with rotational players first (i.e. players at not positions where 1 player plays every down unless injured: QB, OL, LB). I don't know that they go DT early, because they did just draft Paea early, and with Toeina they are really just looking for a 4th DT. And I'd imagine if all goes well this year and in the draft, they can get away by moving Peppers, Wootton and/or Idonije inside on passing downs to get extra pass rush.

I don't think those CBs should stop the Bears from going CB early. They are both on 1 year deals, Jennings is on an easy-to-cut 2 year deal. Tillman will be 32 going into 2013, not drafting CB would force their hand next draft. I think DE, WR, and CB will still be the first 3 picks (my first 3 picks all off-season) with DT, LB, OL and either SS or TE to round out the draft.
