VJ isn't going to get #1 money from anyone

What makes you say that? He was franchised last year, made over 11Mil. Not that he'll make that much next year, but he'll most likely be the #1 WR FA on the board. Bowe will get franchised. Mike Wallace is restricted. Welker isn't leaving NE. Colston will re-sign with NO (Jackson's better than Colston anyway). DeSean Jackson could get franchised, but Vincent's better than him too. He's also better than Steve Johnson and Brandon Lloyd. He's not as old as Reggie Wayne.

Sidney Rice was the #1 WR to leave his team last year, and he got 5 years/$41 Mil, and 18Mil guaranteed. And Rice had major injury questions surrounding him. Santonio got 5/$45 with 24Mil guaranteed and didn't even get the benefit of a bidding war. Maybe you consider #1 money what Fitzgerald got, but nobody has gotten what Fitz got. 8-9Mil per is what WRs of Jackson's caliber get. It's what Andre and Calvin Johnson make.

So. VJ will get $7 max. And he's worth that paired with Cutler.

LOL. So, I give you Rice, Holmes, Fitzgerald, Johnson, and Johnson who all got 8-12 Mil within the last 14 months, and you come back with VJ will get 7 max? You don't have anything to stand on with that number you pulled out of your arse. Granted, I can't see the future....but there's no logical reason to think VJ will get less than Sidney Rice, who was coming off of missing 3/4 of a season with a major injury and with only 1 season of any kind of production.

Your right, I made it up, but only because I don't care what VJ "will get", his production coupled with Cutler would be worth it compared to the alternative, which is a whole lotta nuthing. And that includes drafting Floyd

To avoid reading the last 14~ pages of this thread... is there anything resembling a consensus for who NSBB wants in terms of WR? VJax? DeSean?

With 20-25 mill, after taking care of Forte and Cutler, hopefully by finding someb guys to restructure, giving us a little more room, I'd address a #1 WR before anything else in FA. And I'd add a hybrid OT/OG. After June 1st cuts, I'd look into adding a value guy in the defensive backfield. In the draft, I'm taking an O-Lineman and a DE with my 1st 2 picks, assuming there's value. If not, I'd consider DB or OLB as well. With the 2 3rd's, I'd take a LB and a WR. But, that being said, I also think it's possible to add both a V-Jax/Bowe/Desean type WR and a Carl Nicks as well.

You should care. I already discussed in this thread what the Bears need to with their cap space this offseason (Forte, CB, DE, TE either re-sign players to stay status quo or spend more to improve). Cutler's due a contract after 2 years, and you don't want it to get to that last year. Peppers and Briggs are getting big raises.

The Bears' general manager search intensified Thursday as the team homed in on its leading candidates.

At the front of the line is Ravens personnel director Eric DeCosta. The Bears asked the Ravens on Thursday for permission to interview him, a source told the Tribune. He is the only candidate the Bears are believed to have asked for permission to interview.

By league rules, the Ravens cannot deny the Bears permission to interview DeCosta because the Bears would be offering him a clear promotion with complete personnel control. But the Ravens can delay the Bears from talking with him because they are in the playoffs.

The Bears also continued to do their due diligence on two other candidates — Packers director of football operations Reggie McKenzie and Falcons director of player personnel Les Snead — although the NFL Network reported Thursday night that the Raiders plan to hire McKenzie as their GM.

Another name believed to be in the mix is Packers director of college scouting John Dorsey. It is noteworthy the Bears are interested in two of the Packers' front-office men.

I think I like the Baltimore guy most, but I have no idea. If they get one of these top guys, I'd be very happy with how things went down this offseason. If they wind up with some second tier guy, like Angelo was, I'd be disappointed.

Exactly. This is the premier job out there. Of the teams that need GMs. The Bears have had the most recent success. They have the most draft picks. They probably aren't as talented as the Raiders, but 4 picks in the top 90 vs. 0 for the Raiders, will change that this offseason.

I don't remember when Angelo was hired. Did they strike out on their first choices before settling on him?

The draft is the most important way to build a team. I'm happy with anyone that has a strong background in evaluating college talent. The Ravens, Steelers, Packers and Patriots have had the most successful drafts, without needing top 5 picks to get players (see Detroit Lions). The Falcons, Saints, and Chiefs are also teams that appear to be on the way up in talent evaluation also. Anyone with any kind of influence in those organizations would be ideal.

I don't remember exactly how it went down, but I believe it went something like this:

Mark Hatley ran the personel department in 2000/2001 offseason. They knew they were going to replace him with a GM, and so did he, but he ran the draft anyway and took David Terrell and Anthony Thomas. There was some prolonged executive search committee process involving outside search firms and they settled on Angelo sometime after the draft but before the season in 2001. I don't know if they actually missed out on other targets, but the timing was awful.

I don't want anything to do with DeSean Jackson.

I don't want anything to do with you either.

Hey, I'm cheaper than Vincent Jackson.

ROFL...that sounds like a disaster in the making.

i think i'm going to be sick.

where would the Catholic church be without the Popes? i'm wondering if tice will be handling the day-to-day side while the other guy handles the big picture stuff.

If the "passing game coordinator" is some legit up and coming QB coach who can work well with Jay, I'm okay with it. If its' just some Terry Shea clone working on some knockoff version of the Martz system, I'll be completely disappointed.
