Agreed. I don't think Gasol solves our problems if it means giving up Deng.

On the other hand I would consider Noah, Butler and picks for Gasol...

Really? Butler too??

That was just my best guess at what the Lakers would be looking for in return. I'd much prefer to keep Butler. I think he could develop into a poor-man's Deng.

Wow.

Maybe just Mike James instead of Butler then. LA could use a good 4th string PG and will certainly bite on that.

Also should we be looking at getting-in on Monta Ellis? He's on the block and is a lethal scorer from the 2. PER is a solid 19.3 and TS% is .522. Has 1.7 offensive win shares in 28 games.

What would we have to give up to get him?

Doesn't mean he's worthless. He could be a solid a bench guy; gives you 15-20 minutes with a good PER.

I think he is saying Noah and Butler for Pau is not anywhere close to a fair trade for the Lakers.

this team is badly in need of some scoring + athleticism.

I still don't get how a top 3 team in the NBA is badly in need of anything.

Plus picks.

Hey, maybe that isn't enough, but then I think we arent much of trading partner for anyone unless we are willing to deal Deng and Noah. No one is going to take Boozer's contract.

Jimmy Butler was the 30th pick in the draft and has played 147 minutes in the pros. There's no reason to expect him to have any trade value. You might as well have said John Lucas.

He's a prospect with a far higher ceiling and chance to be a solid rotational player. The only reason he isn't showcasing it is that he's buried behind Deng, Brewer and Korver.

Then why did he last until the 30th pick?

Where was Jeremy Lin drafted?

Where was Arenas drafted? Nobody would say that not being a lottery pick means you cant prove the teams wrong and have a great career. To have trade value you need to have proven you are a true talent, or you need tangible proof of your potential (measurables, college/international career) which translates to being a top pick.

Up until two weeks ago Lin had zero trade value. As of right now, Jimmy Butler has no value and thats the main point. Other than our Charlotte pick, we have no real draft picks of value either. Simply put Noah/Butler/Picks is not nearly enough for one of the best players in the game.

Oh, that was how.

the point is that he was still a recent first round pick and has some value, more value than john lucas, who is a known commodity. the entire bulls' bench is built on non-lottery players, and that is one of the best units in the league.

an inclusion in any trade would be on pure potential.

I think a late first rounder has value in getting a solid older role player or someone like that. I don't there is much there in terms of getting a start player.

Like if Shane Battier player for the Bobcats or something I could see Butler being used to get him.

James Johnson was the 16th pick, actually played the sport at a professional level, and was traded for the 28th pick.

I would imagine there are scenarios where it would be more valuable, trade wise, to prevent the guy from playing as opposed to playing him.

It's possible that you could try to sell a guy like Johnson but they could know you are full of [expletive] because they've seen him play.

On the other hand, you could sell a guy like Butler, who hasn't played as much, and you may get the other team to buy into it a little. I mean, there are a lot of dumb NBA executives.

What? Athleticism? I don't think the Mavericks, Lakers, and Celtics have been all that athletic the last few years and they've been just fine.

I'd like to see another guy that can score easily, but that's obviously pretty tough to find. I'm still not seeing why the Lakers would trade Gasol for Boozer and garbage.

And none of them would've cost anything in a trade if they didn't play their entire first season.
