To a degree. It's not like they have a flawless track record.

And were you really nervous with trade rumors when it came Hendry? That was an area where he was good at his job most of the time.

Yes, because he was bad at his job, often focused on the wrong "areas of need", and was more than happy to pay up to get his man.

Which seems much more reflective in his FA signings than most of his trades.

I never bought into the theory that you could break down his ability between signings and trades. The guy was a bad GM. He made good and bad moves, good and bad trades and good and bad signings. In comparison to how good the Cubs GM could have and should have been, he was terrible. A few good moves didn't assuage my concerns.

To his credit, there weren't very many trades he made that came back to haunt the Cubs.

There were a few in which we came up on the short end,but none in which we really got shafted. The closest was Juan Pierre although for a time it was looking like Dontrelle was one that we'd regret for years to come.

Really didn't like Gregg Maddux for Cesar Izturis

Or three guys who weren't Juan Pierre for Juan Pierre.

the 749 guys in the major leagues who aren't juan pierre are all tied for my favorite player

Aaron Miles will be happy to know he has a fan.

Not that he really got ripped off but still

To this day, I don't know why they didn't just try to get some prospects as opposed to a guy whose ceiling was, well, Cesar Izturis.

cesar izturis' ceiling was that he would die and we wouldn't have to pay his salary

I got a good chuckle out of this.

His ceiling was giving Aramis a nut massage.

Worst trades were smaller ones where he was dumping players the manager didn't like.

Such as Michael Wuertz for literally nothing.

Haha I had forgotten all about that

??

Immediately following Aramis' walkoff HR against Milwaukee in June of 2007, the dugout camera clearly showed Izturis reaching between Aramis' legs from behind and... I dunno, you can insert your euphemism of choice here. You get the idea, though.
