Hearing whispers that Maddux may be the next to pull out of #Cubs manager race. Nothing confirmed, though. Trying to verify.

It's just the CubsDen guy, though, so take it FWIW.

Wait, who are the guys before him that pulled out of the race?

Francona?

That may be who CubsDen was referring to, but it looks pretty clear that he was eliminated from contention prior to pulling his name out.

Maddux can spend lots of time with his family with a dump truck of money for pay for them to all live in Chicago.

Exactly. Speaking of dumps, with all that new money he can afford to move them out of that dump of a state Texas and up to a nice luxury suburb in north of Chicago.

Theo has obviously never been to Southlake.

So we're going to be stuck with either MacKanan or Alomar? Swell.

Should I really have a problem with either? I'd prefer Maddux, but I'm not losing sleep if we end up with a different Theo/Hoyer-approved manager.

I have to say, I'm not too enthused about a guy who resorts to talking about fantasy baseball when stats are brought up. And MacKanan just seems like an old goof.

It's one thing to have a Theo/Hoyer approved guy..it's another to hire the 3rd best guy that you happened to interview when the one or two approved guys fell out of the picture.

All that said, I'm not taking CubsDen guy's word for it on Maddux being out of the picture. Nor do I think Sveum is automatically out just because the Red Sox gave him a second interview.

Also, Art, don't forget about Hale.

I really don't care what they say to the media; even guys like Maddon talk like a meatball in front of the press more often than not. My concern is how well the interviews with the FO went. And that they were even selected to interview in the first place.

Right. But if they are the 3rd best out of 4 or 5 guys, they weren't necessarily all that great.

Would they go for another round of interviews if the x amount of guys they liked from this batch turned them down? Or would they just hire the next best guy?

Wow, wiki says the town is 95% white. That's Winnetka.

But the point is that they were 4 or 5 guys targeted by our FO in the first place. That ideally already puts them at the top, or near the top, of the pack.

I don't need my manager to understand EQA or anything. I'm more interested in how they handle statistically-based advanced scouting tools like spray charts.

I don't care if they know about any of that...I just don't want guys being called in to PH because they're 2/5 against the pitcher on the mound or guys starting because they are 3/10 against the starter, though. The guys that think they know enough to be dangerous who think that stuff like that is an innovative use of stats.

I just don't get why Dave Martinez wasn't interviewed. Why would he not want to a shot a big league job?

Maybe Maddon has talked about retiring or moving elsewhere after his contract his up next season and Martinez wants the Rays.

Come to think of it .... they're pretty similar. Winnetka probably richer per household, but Southlake with cheaper real estate, no state income tax and the best high school football program money can buy.

Cubs manager process nears finish. Ricketts has met with team's choice.

If Ricketts knows seems like someone could leak the damned choice.

I know, I'd just like to know. I have this sinking feeling its gonna be Alomar or Mckakain (can't spell his name). Don't particularly care for either of those guys. Won't be the end of the world though I guess.
