will the maddux bros also follow suit and approach their androgynous dreams through flirting with sex change operations?

or will they team up in some sort of neo-industrial fantasy land where they eat mushrooms, smash bricks with their heads, and kick turtles into their enemies?

I'm 100% behind Mike Maddux as manager if he agrees to wear a racoon suit during a game.

I'm not into the whole furry thing to be honest. Sure, they actually made for the one rewatchable (as in one more time) Entourage episode in existence, but the one male furry show can't be a good watch.

Although Tito and Martinez were my top two choices, I will take a Maddux + CJ Wilson package deal over anything else. Mike Maddux wasn't my favorite candidate. But I really liked what he did with the Rangers rotation. I would be very interested to see what he could do with guys like Samardzija, Cashner, and Marmol. With Maddux pulling out of the Sox interview, I believe that Cherington will make a strong early push for Sveum. Without Sveum, the Sox would have to turn to a wildcard like Alomar. I think we will end up with Maddux. Which could be a great thing for us. I would love his impact to sign big arms in free agency. I have to believe that landing Maddux will make us the favorites to land CJ Wilson.

No. If the Yanks want Wilson they are going to get them. Period.

And whats with the Maddux bandwagon? Let's see what he has to say because beyond he's a good pitching coach none of us knows what kind of manager he will be. LR was a good pitching coach also.

Just like they really wanted cliff lee last offseason and went out and got him.

Exactly.

Based on his previous comments NY doesnt seem like his ideal place to live.

Doesn't matter. More times then not a player will go to the highest bidder. If I remember right CC wasn't that high on NY either. It's rare that a player will take less money to play elsewhere.

well don't make a definitive statement like "if they want him then they're going to get him. period" when all one has to do is go back to the most recent free agent period to find a guy they really wanted, offered the most money to and didn't get.

True. Unfortunately though, neither does Chicago.

Regardless of our new manager, we are going to be big players for both CJ Wilson and Prince Fielder. I don't see how we wouldn't be the favorites to land them if we signed their mentors to manage the team. Hiring Maddux makes us the favorites to land Wilson, just like hiring Sveum would make us the favorites to land Fielder. I would never sign a manager based on his ability to bring in a single free agent. That being said, it would be a really nice perk with either candidate in this situation.

We'd be favorites if we equal or surpass other teams offers.

Welcome to the board, but you're going to have to change your name...

The Cubs have not received permission to interview two other known would-be candidates of interest: Tampa Bay Rays bench coach Dave Martinez and Red Sox bench coach DeMarlo Hale

Wittenmeyer, but still. Maybe this means Theo/ Hoyer have at least asked permission. Red Sox can keep Hale. Compensation settled. We'll take Davey.

Maddux issued a statement through the Rangers:

he says he feels Boston is to far away. Maybe Chicago would not be. he doesn't say much about the Cubs job. I guess we'll learn more tommorow.

That was my first thought. DFW is what, maybe a 2 hour flight from Chicago and Boston would be around 4 at least?

LOL. This is such a dumb argument. 2 [expletive] hours extra (if it's even that much) are going to keep you from taking a job like that?
