actually going off his numbers, he is more of a 2/3. he's not a #1, and certainly not a 4. he's about as solid as it gets and he'll be a pretty good 4-5 year contract. you can count on his 200+ IP and close to 15 wins a season.

I agree with your entire post except the bolded. The reason I don't want Buerhle is because the most I'd feel comfortable giving him is a 3 year contract (and even that's kinda iffy). He's been extremely solid and consistent, but there's no margin for error like there is with a guy like Wilson. If Wilson declines a little, he becomes a really good pitcher who's overpaid. If Buerhle declines a little, he becomes a mediocre starter.

mark buehrle's likely to become doug davis in a couple of years.

Better defense. No annoying pause in his delivery.

That's all I've got.

i actaully have to disagree about him being doug davis. davis in his entire career, won double digits only 5 times. buhrle has 11 straight double digit win seasons and in EACH of those years, he finished with 200+ innings. out of those 11, 8 of them he had a sub 4 ERA. buhrle has never had an amazing whip, nor strikeout totals, but if you want to bet on a guy to win double digits in a year, he's not a bad bet.

i severely underrated this guy. but i think that goes with the job he does, its not flashy, but he has proven without electric stuff, that he can get batters out and he can win games. i would bet that buhrle continues to win 10+ games for at least a few more seasons, then who knows.

I have read more than one scouting observation that a lot of people think Buehrle is one of those guys that could pitch into his 40's. His delivery is easy and he's never thrown hard to begin with. His motivation is evidently the thing some could see holding him back. Either way, he's not really on my radar, because I think someone WILL give him a 4 or 5 year deal, just too long for me, even if he does look like a guy who can pitch forever.

We've had multiple discussions with Buehrle's agent, according to Jon Paul Morosi, via Twitter.

No way Buehrle will ever come here, he like hates the Cubs and stuff.

Seriously. Multiple discussions about what?

He keeps calling us back to complain about the Cubs more.

"My client has advised me to tell you that Cubs fans are just bleacher drunks who don't pay attention to the game."

There are many ways to argue to the people here that we underestimate Buehrle (or any other pitcher). Quoting wins is not the most likely way to garner positive attention, though.

given his age and k rate, i really want no part of buehrle unless he signs a cheap 2 year deal, which sounds unlikely.

also i hate always trying to remember if the r comes before the h or not.

Bowden projects 4 and 56 for him. Yeah, it's Bowden, but still, that's pretty damn scary.

Somehow I can see a team desperate for pitching overpaying at that price, but I have faith that that team is not the Cubs

jim edmonds would never ever sign with the cubs

And he never did.

??

He was traded, silly.

You sure about that one?

Well... balls. I'm wrong. Sorry. I thought SanDiego traded him to us, forgot he was released and then signed

Van Dyck says we're unlikely to make good offer on Buehrle. Also says we're not really in the market for any big ticket guys. I disagree on that, but glad it's probably not Buehrle.

Csn said buerhle is THE top pitcher on market.
