Is this the most optimistic you've ever felt about the Cubs? If not, please say when you felt better about the future of the team.

I'm talking long-term optimism. I was way more optimistic for the coming season in 2004 and 2008.

The only time that comes close was before Mark Prior's injury was first announced in 2004. It was before spring training, right?

Ricketts+Theo and crew could change this team forever. Even after Theo's gone, the principals he's bringing will still be here. IT'S FINALLY SAFE FOR ME TO HAVE A SON.

Easily the most ever. I still feel like this is a dream, or even a dream within a dream. My arm is bruised and sore from the constant pinching.

My son is 4, and his favorite Cubs are Starlin Castro and Theo Epstein.

Yep. Finally convinced my son that Theriot is a [expletive]. So Castro is his favorite player. He should be able to remember the first cubs WS of his lifetime.

Before game 5 of the 2003 NLCS

yeah i'm probably in the same boat... leading the series, dominant young rotation with one guy who seemed like a generational talent, and many of us didn't yet know that dusty was a moron and hendry was mediocre.

I was actually very confident from 2003-2009. Especially in the early '00's when we had what looked to be one of the best young pitching staffs I'd ever seen, not to mention some very good young hitters like Patterson, A Ram, and later D Lee. It was hard to imagine those guys not getting us to a few World Series, and be one of the elite teams in baseball.
