Beware of Sporting News magazine. They just informed me that they are switching to a monthly format from a bi-weekly format and that my paid up subsciption for the next 14 months (over 30 issues) is now only worth 2 more issues. The cover price of the monthly magazine will be $8.

Known by most sport fans since forever.

I still miss USA Today's Baseball Weekly. I wrote them a letter that likely peeled the paint off the newsroom walls when they started putting the football crap in it.

People still subscribe to Sporting News?

I renewed my subscription about a year ago when it was still a weekly magazine for a promotional rate of 37 cents an issue, so for that price it was a good buy.

The only sports publication I still subscribe to is USA Today's Sports Weekly. I get 52 issues for $30 and I get actual sports news/stats unlike the fluff/investigative [expletive] in SI and ESPN the Mag.

I was getting TSN for a few years awhile back when they were offering a year of the magazine and their online fantasy resources (Fantasy Source, I think -- the draft kits were second-to-none) for $20. That seemed like a good deal.

But I never read the magazine. It was absolute garbage. They were clearly trying to remain relevant by including a lot of reader-generated content. But that's not why I buy magazines.

Generally, I still get monthly magazines to an extent. They have the time (and presumably the resources) to do the kind of reporting that takes time, and I appreciate that. But weeklies are just useless to me, and this isn't just limited to sports. If there is a more pointless publication than Time or Newsweek, I haven't found it.

There was a fluff investigation? Now I regret giving up my subscription.

I got it. I really liked it. But am canceling it. What I liked about it (lots of info about lots of stuff) will likely be what is removed in the new ver.

I've been subscribing to TSN since 1988 or so. I used to subscribe to SI too. I let the SI subscription run out. I'm going to let my TSN subscription run out too. It is an out-dated medium, yes. I did still enjoy it for reading material when I would go to the gym or whatever...but I've lost interest in it. Maybe I've been slower to lose interest in it that other people. But whatever interest I had is gone now.

TSN used to be the only pub(back in the caveman era some would say)that had box scores for all the games. That was pretty cool. Technology has simply blown up the landscape of baseball coverage. I miss SPORT magazine, which used to be up there with SI.

I believe there's still a market for in-depth and investigative stories for baseball, but don't know where they would land.
