"A baseball source told ESPN that MLB officials have given the Cubs the OK to announce the deal Friday"

Well with the way things have been going through this entire process this one will probably be accurate.

I wish it said a MLB baseball source. I guess my 7 year old machine pitch player falls in the "a baseball source" catagory.

That's just the report from yesterday, I'm pretty sure. That's what ESPN Chicago said yesterday.

Sorry, my bad. It had the Oct 21, 2011 date listed. Also, the link from Laura had a date stamp of Oct 21, 2011 2pm stamp.

Wishful thinking

At this hour, it is “doubtful,” according to a source familiar with the situation, that a resolution will be reached today in the compensation talks between the Red Sox and Cubs over Theo Epstein’s impending move to Chicago.

For now, it’s unclear whether commissioner Bud Selig has intervened. Selig told SiriusXM Radio yesterday that he may have to mediate the negotiations in order to produce a resolution.

ALL LIES! THE DEAL IS COMPLETE!

Levine says that one of the owners backed out of a deal that was in place.

Is there any chance that they had a deal without McNutt, and then Henry/Lucchino heard the Selig quotes and said "well, we might as well get him involved and see if we can end up getting something better" ?

Has there ever been a more drawn out, dramatic and every changing by the second "trade" for a GM in the history of baseball? Seriously, source after source leaking info that's not accurate, presser tomorrow, presser not forthcoming, deal done, deal not done.

Nah...this would've been earlier in the day yesterday when Henry was quoted as saying they weren't close.

Negative. There's no reason to be throwing bad vibes around the internets like that.

Bud: [expletive] this, I'm going to put the names of every Cubs minor leaguer in a hat and The Red Sox get to pick 3,

Henry: Trey McNutt! Brett Jackson! Matt Szczur!

Ricketts: That's not what they say

Henry : yes it is

Bud: John...show us the names

Henry: OK.

Matt Camp

Justin Berg

Blake Lalli.

[expletive] my life.

More like coitus interruptis. The union will be consummated; I already said it's like 75% done. Larry and John just need more lube.
