He's already made millions. If he wanted more family time, he could step back whenever he wants.

Why is this thread required to have crazy on every page?

There's a difference between doing it just because he wants to and doing it because it's somewhat forced on him by failed negotiations. I'm sure he wants to take on the Cubs job, but if he has to wait a year and doesn't want to put up with another year of Hendry and Lucchino, that's when that possibility could come into play.

My hope is that they get Hoyer and McCleod signed as soon as possible so they can get on with the offseason and when Theo joins, he joins.

He doesn't have to sit out a year. If the Sox don't let him out of his contract, he's their GM. They can't force him to stay at home. It makes no sense. 0. None.

Yes, that is an option, but they could be at the point where they feel that it is a conflict of interest, or simply don't want to work together any longer. I know, if that were the case the sensible thing to do would be to just let him come to the Cubs and take what they're given, but these guys don't sound quite rational and seem like cut off their nose to spite their face guys.

But here's the thing, he is their GM. They can't keep him under contract and have someone else perform the GM duties, then they'd be in breach. Didn't we do this dance yesterday?

[expletive] man, there are 217 pages worth of dances. I can't be responsible for learning all of them.

Levine says he has a better chance of winning a million bucks this weekend than the Cubs do of signing Theo before Halloween.

Says there was an agreement in place and "one of the owners" was like, "Nah, forget it." Back at square one.

dave kaplan blocked me on twitter

Does that make you better at trolling than ssr?

No, just the opposite. I've yet to be blocked, and I got responded to on my first try. I'm slow playing him, I don't want him to block me before we re-sign Ramirez.

You were actively posting in the thread while the discussion was ongoing. Can I expect you to read threads while you actively post in them?

Levine throwing all kinds of water on this.

Also said Cubs can't really hire Hoyer without Epstein in place.

That makes no sense to me.

slow playing him with "what time is the press conference" and "at least lie consistently"

the only reason you didn't get blocked yet is because you had the good sense not to start making fun of him for getting lied to by crane kenney

Hoyer is Epstein's guy. He wants to work with Epstein. He's not going to quit his job in SD while there is even a tiny bit of doubt that Epstein is coming, and the Cubs can't really hire a GM if there's even a tiny chance that they may have to look for a new president of baseball ops.

[expletive] this, like I said, sign Hoyer and McCleod and sign Theo when we can whether it's tomorrow or next year. There's the chance that they have to come as a package, but that would require messing up the Padres plans to go nowhere in anyones lifetime as well.

This being said, can Epstein still be the Red Sox GM? Unless they end up giving him an extension, it's clear that he's gone after 2012, and he'd be under a microscope the whole year and probably wouldn't be able to do much of anything without answering to Lucchino. Of course he could always accidently claim Alfonso Soriano of irrevocable waivers.

they can hire hoyer and wait for theo, if theo tells hoyer he's coming.

He would be quitting at a place that won't give him an extension to go to a place that will be giving him a 5-year deal. So that point makes no sense.

I doubt Ricketts absolutely insists he must have a president of baseball ops now just because that was going to be the plan with Theo.

Why not?

See above.

Let's assume for a moment that there's even a 1% chance that Epstein to the Cubs falls apart.

Hoyer's not going to quit his job in San Diego if there's a chance he has to work with someone other than his superbestbuddy.

The Cubs aren't going to hire a new GM if there's even a tiny chance they have to find a new President (who will presumably want some sort of say on the GM front).
