Nope. Because it was just so damn good.

But not quite the perfection of Titanic that year.

There's a Ben Affleck and Matt Damon-sized hole in that bit of trolling.

I just read that NY Times piece, and I'm gonna go ahead and admit it

I had no idea that Samardzija was pretty decent over 88 innings this year.

Interesting to see Ricketts is handling it and not Bush.

Not interesting at all. Ricketts is the owner and I'm sure he has to convince Theo on his plans and direction of the team.

He's talking about the compensation.

That part is done. It's interesting Ricketts is handling the compensation issue.

I see. Well that's down right scary. What the hell does Ricketts know about players values? I hope he's not stupid enough to give'em anything they want.

I'm guessing it's because it's probably money, but who knows.

I'm sure he's being advised by baseball people on who they'd be willing to send...not that our existing baseball people are very good.

Odds are he's pushing it towards a monetary resolution.

Which would make sense then, but I highly doubt Red Sox want money. They have no shortage of that. I'd think they'd want talent.

And the Cubs could be saying "tough [expletive]; either take the money or get middling talent." This isn't a done deal, but it's pretty obviously beyond the point where the Red Sox scrap everything if the Cubs are insisting they get max compensation value via money as opposed to a player or players.

Maybe more than Randy Bush.

Then the Red Sox say "[expletive] you! He's under contact and he needs to drag his ass back here!"

It's tremendously unlikely that something like that happens at this point.

I will say that politely once.

ONCE.

And then they have a lame duck GM and have to pay him all that money when they know he's leaving in a year.

Not to imagine the nightmare it would be to make that work PR-wise.

And completely torch their reputation among potential future young, talented executives who might want to join them.

There's a reason real-life teams never go into this machiavellian, squeeze-ever-last-ounce-of-value ideas we come up with.

Like I pointed out last night, Theo apparently told Henry and Lucchino he wasn't coming back after 2012 regardless. If that's the case and the Red Sox balk and kill the thing, they risk Ricketts coming after Cherington and leaving them without a obvious candidate after next season if Theo made good.

Epstein and Lucchino have also been at odds, with Theo resenting Lucchino's meddling and wanting more autonomy. But throughout this process, Henry and Lucchino have appeared/spoken together with Theo nowhere to be seen (except at Starbucks). Allegiances seem pretty clear here. That also being the case, it's hard to imagine Henry now stepping on Lucchino's feet and giving Epstein the power he wants to keep him in the organization.

This thing is way too far down the line for compensation to kill it. It might drag it out, but this is happening.

If Theo will actually be allowed to bring one or two of his guys along (Cherington is obviously off the table), who might make sense? Allard Baird, maybe?

I wonder if Shipley is too high up for them to allow him to jump, he's who I'd like most in that front office.

It's hard to know without knowing who was a Theo guy and who was a Lucchino guy as far as who would even want to jump.

Boston article feeding the fans that they could possibly land McNutt,Jackson,Sczur, or Vitters..And they also appearantly like Jeff Baker

Oh dear. I honestly don't understand why Boston should be able to poach either our top pitching or our top hitting prospect. I will be pissed if this happens.

P.S. Please don't happen.
