Holy hell just saw what Weber did. The yapping heads in Canada are saying maybe a game at most. How is that possible? It's one thing to go too far with a check. A hockey play.

This was an after the whistle (after the game, actually) mugging. That's egregious. Wow.

I think this case is going to be tough for Shanahan. Suspending Weber for more then a game would really hamstring the Preds. If he was to do that I could imagine the outcry of those calling him a Wings homer. However, if the NHL is really serious about cleaning this kind of stuff up, suspending star players for multiple games in the playoffs would send a huge message. I think he is going to get a game. Just my gut reaction to how the NHL has handled playoff suspensions in the past. In the past this would not have even gotten a suspension, so a game with the new hypersensitive rules seems right.

I think this is different than most cases. Not to be overly dramatic, but this was assault.

You can question intent or even excuse a slew foot or elbow coming up or hitting a guy from behind during play. Things happen, a guy turns at the last second. It's a fast game. But what Weber did had nothing to do with the game. It was unquestionably an attempt to injure.

Throw the book at him. Five games.

Factor in that he's their Captain and I think it makes it even worse. This is a guy that the franchise expects more of, he's supposed to be their leader.

I still disagree strongly with the outcome (extent of injury) deciding the punishment. Maybe Zetterberg should have let himself be taken off on a stretcher like Burrows would have.

As a Wings fan I was hoping he would either have had the book thrown at him or no suspension at all. I think 1 game would have been the worst case for the Wings.

As a NHL fan, it again goes to show that all their talk goes out the window at playoff time....as usual. Especially if a star player is involved.

edit...so on a Wings board the topic of conversation has turned to "This is why Bertuzzi crippled Steve Moore, if the NHL would have done their job Bertuzzi would not have had to do what he did" #-o

What a joke.

And I don't necessarily disagree with those Wings fans. Sure they are going over the top, but what if Zetterberg's skull had been busted open? Setting the severity of the injury aside, what Weber and Bertuzzi did aren't that different.

Clear intent to injure outside the bounds of any action that might help your team win.

Oh, and Bitz is having a hearing for his hit from behind. Which he got a major and a game for. So he was already punished and will likely be punished more.

And Weber got no punishment on the ice and will get none. The fine doesn't count.

Jersey, you're right. It's open season. I'm concerned about Toews going the way of Montador.

I don't get how you don't suspend him for a game.

That said, Zetterberg hit him from behind, which was what led to the Weber turning into Macho Man. Not an excuse, just saying...

In Keith's case that sort of fact led to a bigger suspension. It was considered evidence that he was purposefully retaliating.

If we learned anything from the Keith incident, if it's deemed to be retaliation, that makes it worse.

I think that's bogus too, but it's how Shanahan has said he looks at things.

Anyway, Scottrade is going to be one nervous building tonight. I'll bet they wish they weren't the favorites. Though they are such a good home team. Will need Halak to stand on his head.

Several of my friends from Nashville are all singing the same song. "Zetterberg wasn't hurt, so who cares. Besides, Zetterberg started it. Weber shouldn't have even gotten a fine."

Nashville fans are idiots. Weber knew he was going to try to freeze the puck and therefore knew someone was probably going to blast him considering it was the last few seconds. What Zetterberg did is rarely even going to be called in the last minute or so of a game. Zetterberg did not fully charge him. He turned sideways to make sure he hit him but also to position himself to make a play on the puck. Like I said, I really don't mind but when some Pred gets Kornwalled next game or Weber gets 3 fighting majors I don't want to hear one peep out of Preds fans.

Solid, solid defense in this Flyers/Penguins game.

This series has been freaking amazing so far. Wow Flyers just scored the dagger....Everyone's Cup favorites are down 0-2 after dropping 2 at home.
