steve mason's run as worst goalie in the nhl continues!!!! his game against toronto the other night was pitiful too. he really is an awful, awful goalie. i know they invested money in him, but at some point they have to get him out of the pipes as a starter. going away from a legit backup is one of the worst moves that team could have made. then again, he's not really a passable nhl backup with a 900 save% either. awful goalie, awful contract, awful handling of that situation in general.

yeah, the coach just got fired

really riveting first period between the flyers and lightning. when the flyers have the puck in their own zone, the lightning are playing a strict 1-3-1 zone with 3 guys stacked up at the red line and the lead forward also in center ice. so basically no attackers. the flyers don't feel like attacking into the zone and turning it over, so they probably spent two or three minutes in the first period with their d-men just skating around in their own zone doing nothing while all five tampa guys stood around at center ice. not surprisingly, no goals were scored and the number of scoring chances was low.

So it took me like 30 secs for me to dislike Crosby again. Boston/Canadiens game was supposed to be on Versus last night but they switched to a lousy Pens/Islanders game because of Sids return. Versus/NBCsports has a chance to be the anti-ESPN, but it would appear that they are copying the ESPN game plan.

By skipping a chance to air a Boston game?

Is the ESPN game play airing the game more people want to see? Because it's a no-brainer.

Really, more people would rather see Crosby's first game against a bad team than a solid game between the defending SC Champion and a possible contender. I dislike more people

It's the biggest star in the league coming back for the first time from a high publicized injury. It makes perfect sense to air that game and it's pointless to cry about it.

yeah i don't understand this either. i love boston/montreal but it's going to happen 5 other times this year. crosby coming back from injury will ideally only happen once. he's the face of the league, the best player on earth by far (131 points in his last 82 games, i believe), and an absolute marquee draw. showing him play even a crappy team like the isles is an easy choice. hell, i even listened to the game on my ipod at work for a while.

ESPN hockey analyst Matthew Barnaby was arrested early Monday morning in Clarence, N.Y. and charged with DWI after being pulled over for driving erratically.. His Porsche was missing a front tire and was sparking as it ran on the front rim.

I don't have a problem with the new reallignment, or the way the schedule is going to work (home and home with everybody, 5-6 games against your conference teams). But it's absurd that the playoffs will force all 4 teams that made the playoffs from each conference to play each other in the first two rounds. That guarantees that lesser teams will not only make the playoffs, but advance in the playoffs.

Yeah, the playoff thing is a bit of overkill. If you dominate that "conference" by a ton of points in the regular season, you shouldn't necessarily have to prove that dominance again by beating them in the playoffs. If that's the way the seeds between 2 "conferences" play out, then, sure, play them. But, if not, why should the Hawks have to risk losing to a team like the Blues that they have played 6 times already. Seems like overkill. The meatball fan rivalries will be fun, though.

This playoff format would be cooler if they played cross-conference. 1 seed from Conference A plays 4 seed from Conference B, and vice versa, etc.

I don't think the NHL is anticipating how tired fans will get of seeing Chicago/Detroit/St Louis/Whoever in the first two rounds every single year

Finally just watched that video of Tootoo destroying Miller last Saturday night. Suspended two games, which I think is about right. It's arguable whether he was actually trying to injure Miller -- he could have been trying to get out of the way. I wouldn't have argued though with a few more games given Tootoo's history.

At least the Sabres actually did something this time. There were three dudes (including Miller) punching any part of Tootoo's body they could get to.

Tootoo looked like he got beat harder then Miller got hit. Its a weird play, I mean Tootoo looses the puck (or lets it go) and them makes an attempted dive over Miller, which could have also been for show.

Pronger is out for the year. This concussion issue is getting serious for the league.

I wonder if it's a symptom of a faster game or if there are just more diagnoses. I think it's the former.

faster, better diagnosis, bigger pads.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Claude giroux is also concussed. I've been impressed with the flyers this year, bryzgalov has been kind of ordinary and Pronger has missed a lot of time, giroux is now out, and the flyers still have the best win % in the league.

If Pronger retires his salary would count against the cap, so he would probably just stay on long term IR and spare the flyers the cap hit.
