I can't even look at the field whenever that monstrosity is in view. On top of the tackiness of it all is how cheap it looks. The flying dolphins are attached with what amount to giant popsicle sticks.

Perhaps it exists to give the Marlins a stronger homefield advantage. I mean, that thing has to be horribly distracting in a visiting hitter's peripheral vision, whereas the Marlins will be used to it after a while.

it's like the marlins are actively trying to distract people from the fact that there's a baseball game going on. i'm just waiting for them to announce that they'll have a singles bar beyond the rightfield fence and a drag show beyond the leftfield fence.

You need them to announce this? I thought it was assumed.

Not sure if there's been an announcement, but beer is available for purchase during games at Miller Park. Coors Field and Busch Stadium too.

None of them have strippers or drag shows though. Or the shrine of dolphins on popsicle sticks.

There they shall live and swim in circles without ever knowing the open seas or passionate baseball fans, until such time as natural causes or a forgotten filter change or an errant Carlos Zambrano fastball grants them peace.

Or when they boil to death in minutes because of the sun because that's how fish tanks work.

I hope they kill the stadium lights on every HR and that this thing lights up like the sun, spewing fire and lasers

I dont know why but I cant stop laughing uncontrollably thinking of this!

Kind of off topic but what does everyone think of this new Rays stadium and our they exactly building it?

It looks like there is barely any seats in the bleachers?

They are not. The Rays have been met with obstacles at every step of trying to get a new stadium built. As the date on the video says, that's a planned design they were trying to get passed several years ago.

The blue oval just to the left of center is where the sculpture stands. Even if it's not directly in their sight line, I can see how the sculpture could certainly present a distraction to lefties. I look forward to teams complaining about this all season long.

Edit: Here's an older image of Stanton taking BP. The big concrete spiral/cylinder off to the left houses the glorious monstrosity.

What kind of fool puts a 3 story, multi-million dollar psychedelic aqua-mobile at the very edge of the batter's eye?

You have to imagine MLB signed off on all elements of the new stadium, including the design and placement of the display.

This will be an issue for like 5 minutes, then will fade into oblivion, like Jerry Jones' too-low video board.
