With the Bears playing the Saints, and with Urlacher possibly out of town, I'm looking at dropping Ochocinco and picking up a second defense. Options I'm considering:

Broncos (v Cin)

Bills (v Oak)

Dal (@ SF)

Cle (@ Ind)

thoughts?

WR 2

manningham vs. Stl

or

Stevie Johnson vs. Oakland

RB2

Jahvid Best vs. KC

Tolbert @ NE

Beanie Wells @ Wash

Since all my waivers went through I have 1 more:

Steve Smith vs GB

Henderson vs CHI

Ingram vs CHI

I can't wait till Ingram has some good matchups already. I don't like starting 3 WRs.

Manningham & Best

this might be the best week to play Manningham, St. Louis might be without both starting CBs and Nicks is questionable; MM's going to get a lot of burn

KC seems like the softer matchup than Washington

Hicks is my WR1 (FAITH IN ELI), so I might end up with Stevie anyway

Bears @ Saints

Giants vs. STL

Texans @ MIA

I'd go Giants here. I think they're against the weakest offense if the three without Jackson.

Ok I got another one.

Pick 2:

McFadden @ BUF

Hillis @ IND

McCoy @ ATL

Best v KC

Also, I'm already starting Stafford and the Lions D against a Lions fan.

Bears D is almost an every week must-start, right?

See, that's what I thought coming into the season, but last week I out-thought myself and said "well the Falcons might put up some points on the Bears and the Giants are going up against Rex, so let's go with the Giants." Thankfully it didn't matter, as my opponent put up just 49 points, but I'm doing it again this week. Saints are certainly tougher than the Falcons, and if Urlacher is out I don't think I can start them.

I was kind of leaning towards Houston because, while the Rams O is entirely injured, so is the Giants D. I'm going to have to sit on this for a few days.

Should I even entertain the thought of playing Alex Smith over Drew Brees? The only reason the thought has crossed my mind is because Brees is facing the Bears and Smith is facing a Cowboys team that did allow over 300 yards passing to Mark Sanchez.

Seems like blowing a team out does more damage to a QB's numbers than playing a solid defense does. Flacco put up huge numbers against Pittsburgh, Brees put up 400 yds against the Packers, and half of Aaron Rodgers's yards came in the 1st quarter, then the Packers slowed the pace in favor of clock control. (I don't get why this is a strategy over scoreboard control, but oh well.) Schaub isn't in the same discussion talent-wise, but I'm sure he could have put up more than 8 points against Indy had there been a necessity.

If the Bears hold Brees to 250/2/1, that could be considered about as much of a shutdown as anyone can hope for. Think about those numbers, then think about Alex Smith. Then think about Brees throwing for 400+ against the Packers. Then drop Alex Smith and pick up Devery Henderson.

Your idea sounded a lot better than considering Alex Smith so I did that. I had him solely because I wanted a bye week QB and I liked his match up that week although he didn't do much vs the Seahawks. I have now gone with Chad Henne as my bye QB as he was the best one available and they play the Bills that week. I'm probably over thinking a lot of things though as this is still my second fantasy football year.

pick 2:

Roddy White (v Phi)

Mike Williams (@Min)

Steve Johnson (v Oak)

Nate Burleson (v KC)

Roddy White and Mike Williams. Don't overthink it, just use the best two players.

This is definitely a logical approach, but is the most effective use of the bench really just to give yourself the best odds on bye weeks?
