so are we back to being super exited about brett jackson? OPS of over 1.000 in AAA.

It's always wise to take any performance in the PCL with a grain of salt, but it's nice to see considering the struggles he had after the hand injury. Still, I'd like to see him reduce the K at AAA down around 20%.

From everything I've heard, he'll always be a guy who Ks a lot, and walks a lot.

Marquez Smith, Welington Castillo and Ryan Cuneo are in Mesa's lineup as they rehab from injuries.

Marco Hernandez is 2/3 with a triple thus far. Gioskar Amaya is 0/1 with 2 BBs. Kyung-Min Na is 2/3.

Brett was 2-4 with a 2B. Flaherty also had a 2B. Jay was solid going 6IP giving up 2ER on 3H with 1BB and 5K.

Posted 2 minutes apart - I'm guessing the first post wasn't up when WSR went to make his post.

This is correct.

Thinking of going to Peoria v. Kane County tonight, Kirk v. Billo should be a fun matchup. Wish there were more position players of note at Peoria though, Easterling and maybe Geiger are the only guys I can get excited about.

Not sure why there would be any. He's not a real prospect.

I'm still mildly intrigued with Alcantara. That said, he needs to make massive improvements at the plate to be a legitimately intriguing prospect. There are some folks that believe Rubi Silva might really take off in 2012, figuring that a combination of cultural adjustment and the MWL has hampered him this year. He's actually been on a nice little roll of late.

smith played 2b, which is a little odd... don't remember him playing much there the past couple of years.

hernandez ended 2/4 with a walk, i'm pretty high on him. doesn't strike out much and also has a low error total considering that he's 18 and playing shortstop.

again, check his age and his BB/K ratio. he hits home runs but doesn't walk, and his good batting average this year has to be due to good luck on balls in play.

The Cubs have dabbled with Marquez as a utility type in the past, but according to Bruce Miles in his blog when I asked him once, Marquez was in such bad shape last year that they couldn't move him to MI.

IMO, for Marquez to make it to the big, he needs to be passable at other spots, and be Jeff Baker-ish.

Hernandez is really looking good. Granted, just Rookie league, but it's quite promising. Considering we lost Castro/Lee, the fact that we still have good, young shortstop talent is nice to see, and Penalver, by most accounts, may have a higher ceiling than Marco.
