Kind of brings a tear to the eye thinking back to all the hype surrounding Kosuke when we won the bidding for him and signed for him and all the hope we had for this team at the time. :bye:

And his first game at Wrigley with the late HR. Good memory. Kinda like Tuffy Rhodes' 3 HR day.

I yelled so loud when he hit that HR.

We weren't going to get any comp picks for Fukudome, the season was lost, and the Cubs save money. I'm sad to see Fukudome go, but at least the Cubs got something for him.

Smith is a right-handed reliever with okay stuff but he has not progressed through the Indians system like they had hoped after he was drafted in 2004.

yeah i'm sure it was a huge letdown that their 21st round pick didn't turn into roger clemens.

to be fair, i think thekapman just copied and pasted that from some indians prospect writeup. there's no way he would write all those positive things about a hispanic player.

but the part that really cracks me up is the area about pitch recognition and contact skills:

He is a very aggressive hitter so is prone to strikeouts, but has shown an ability to make contact with pitches all over the zone. For his age, he recognizes pitches very well

really? so he has very good pitch recognition but still strikes out a ton and doesn't walk. and he makes contact with pitches all over the zone, but struck out 130 times in 106 games last year. right.

Well it's also got a couple of fairly significant factual errors. Like this-

he is also still very raw and has yet to play at a more advanced level in High-A or Double-A which often weed out the pretenders

He's in his second full season at A+ Kinston.

And that scouting report is from before last season. The year he was hurt and had season ending surgery was 2009. He's since spent two seasons at A+ ball and has a .244/.294/.429/.723 line in his second season.

Who knows, maybe the guy is a late bloomer, but, people on here (not all, but a sizable number) complain about Vitters, but he's outperformed Abreu at each level and at younger ages. Maybe the injury has affected him the last two seasons, but I'm not sure about a guy that has a .294 OBP w/ 102K/22BB in his repeat season at A+ ball.

I do like this comment:

Developing that plate discipline is a key attribute for him if he wishes to experience success as he moves further along in the system, and is a goal he has set for this coming season to focus on.

But like someone said, this was from 2 years ago so we've yet to see this focus pay off.

yeah me too. Dude seemed like the real deal because every at bat was a good one. I came away from that game thinking that the cubs just signed that ichiro/matsui hybrid that he was advertised as. It really is too bad.

Im not condoning it, just remembering when he first came to town and venders were selling those shirts like it was a good idea, much like the Pujols Mows my Lawn nonsense. I think even Clark Street Sports, which is more mainstream of a store had them.
