Raisin's probably busy, so here are some probable starters

Iowa: LHP Chris Rusin

Tennessee: RHP Trey McNutt

Daytona: LHP Jeffry Antigua

Peoria: LHP Eric Jokisch

Boise: RHP Ben Wells

AZL Cubs are done, beating AZL D-backs 15-7. Brian Smith got the start. Of note, Marco Hernandez 3/4, 2 R, 1 3B, 4 RBI, and Gioskar Amaya went 3/5, 1 3B, 3 RBI, 1 E. Starting to wonder if Hernandez should slide into the back end of a Cubs top 20 prospect list. Wouldn't mind seeing one, or both, of them moved up to Boise at some point.

DSLCubs 1 and 2 haven't played either.

Not too busy, just forgot that I hadn't done it last night.

Hernandez (and Candelario) are in my top 20. Amaya is in my top 30...his K/BB hasn't been pretty. I'd leave them where they are until that week that Boise is still playing and Mesa is done. It'll be interesting to see if either of them start at Peoria next season.

Completely missed the fact that our Daytona boys were going up against a rehabbing Johan Santana. Iowa is postponed.

predictably, they didn't do much against him.

nice outing from antigua - 7 ip, 7 h (6 singles, 1 double), 3 er, 0 bb, 8 k. that gives him 50 K's against just 10 BB in 48.2 IP. plus he's still really tough on lefties, which gives me hope that if he flames out as a starter he could still be a situational lefty.

I wonder what was wrong with Antigua at Peoria. He's been dynamite at Daytona.

Beliveau is making a mockery of AA, it's time for him to go to Iowa.

Easterling is 2 for 3 with a double and sac fly, and Jokisch continues his ridiculous July on the eve of his 22nd birthday. 29.2 IP, 23 H, 4 ER, 1 HR, 28/2 K/BB

The DSL Cubs2 massacred the DSL Nationals 13-2. Candelario went 2-4 with another walk. He's currently sporting a .454 OBP.

Penalver went 3-3 with 2 walks, 3 runs, 1SB/1CS. His line on the season is up to .283/.392/.353.

I wonder if it was something as simple as some bad luck, really bad outings, and some loss of confidence. I hate to go to this, particularly because of the level of play, but the BABIP was awful high, and the HR/9 rate was significantly higher than anything he had ever done (and didn't really match with the type of stuff he was supposed to have). I mean, after the 10 earned runs in his first three outings, he only gave up 3 earned runs in his last 9.2 innings in A ball. You can live with those ER numbers.

This type of nonsense has no business in the Cubs organization. Hopefully they'll learn to swing a bit more freely as they progress,

Big Ben Wells is putting together a really nice outing. 4 shutout, 1 h, 5 K's, 1 HBP, 4:0 GO/FO.

With stuff like this, this year's draft, and most likely having a top 3 pick next year, our farm should be mighty badass in a couple years.

i, too, am very excited about the prospects of our prospects, as all these signings in the last month and a half or so seem like the cubs could quickly have a bevy of future major league contributors. however, i think it's also important to temper this by remembering just how quickly most of the top guys going into this year (i realize the new signees have often higher ceilings than last years top ten lists, etc, and welcomely so) crapped the bed, or, if not completely crapping, they kind of got gassy and lessened optimum talent realization.

my major question, specifically concerning the offensive ideologies of the cubs organization regarding prospects, is whether there has been a true turning towards patience at the plate, or if there is, somehow, an overcompensation, especially looking at this years draft class, with grasps towards big time power threats at corner positions to kind of mask an inability to teach on base skills, if such things can be indeed taught to young players with natural inclinations which lean otherwise; that targeting guys with swings which are quick through the zone (which, please don't misunderstand my objection, as, i mean, castro hit a bomb earlier this year where he waited back on a hanging breaking ball which he was originally well out in front of and was still able to pull it with power, and that sort of baseball play is, to a baseball fan with mildly educated eyes, as enthralling as any other i've seen, at least on the big league level in 2011) to, again, compensate for a lack of knowing how to teach patience?

now, if it is in fact a recognition, that is a remarkable move of realizing what your organization has utterly failed at at every turn, and not flat out giving up, by trying to go laterally to find a jumping point towards vertical improvement (redundant, sorry), i think it speaks to someone somewhere doing something right towards the farm system. not to say this is worth maintaining hendry, as, i'm sure we'd all agree that having an organization which gives just praise for pitch recognition would be better than mere making-up-for, but, alas, it's kind of bittersweet to loathe your favorite team's general manager all while seeing this flux of talent, oddly accrued it may be, while wanting to be optimistic as hell about a chance to finally watch a world series champion, yet wanting to be realistic and acutely critical of those in charge and what development means to those in charge of raising the kids to a degree of mastery where they can realize their full potential, rather than seeing quick, obvious declines at each level of promotion to a lesser version. hopefully i wasn't speaking in circles and this ends up being a talkable point of concern for the organization at large.

Wells needs to learn to pitch more efficiently. He's running into high pitch counts by the middle of the game. That said, he's young, and this is a learning process.

His line against righties is insane

He tends to hit a wall around the 5th or 6th inning. It may just be a conditioning issue for him.

Could be, but a couple starts back, he was on like his 80th pitch in the early 4th. With good sinking action, he should be able to get through innings quicker than that.

That said, this isn't meant as a major critique, because he is so young and this is a learning process.
