Can you tell me what could possibly make some goober's opinion "official" ???

Man, I don't even know if this team even cracks the top 10 of worst teams I've seen in my lifetime. I'm sure as [expletive] not going to be thinking it after they lose 2-0 to Greinke. You delicate flowers are acting like they just got shut down by someone's batting practice pitcher.

I dunno, I think the 2006 team was worse to watch. Horrible team, horrible starting pitching, and Quade has a long way to go until I consider him worse than Dusty.

John Mabry, Phil Nevin, Neifi Perez, Freddy Bynum, Tony Womack, Roberto Novoa, Glendon Rusch, Wade Miller, these are the names that made up your 2006 Chicago Cubs.

Yeah, that's definitely in my top 3, and it might be the "winner." At the very least I get to watch Garza and Castro this year, plus I'm invested in seeing how guys like Aramis, Byrd, Barney, Zambrano, Dempster and Soto do since there's a very good chance they can help this team next year. That 2006 team was just a dead end outside of Barrett and Aramis. Yeah, Lee was there, but the injury made it like he all but wasn't. God, what an awful year.

That said, 2006 actually gives me hope for 2011. As horrendous as that team was, they were able to have a huge bounceback the next year with the right moves. It's like the brutality of 2006 and the unexpected relative awesomeness (YES, I KNOW THEY DIDN'T WIN 90 GAMES, GOONEY) of 2007 makes this seem a lot more tolerable.

I guess I feel that way because they appear to have the talent to be better than they are. I really thought they would be they would be able to stay around .500.

Which is what made that team more palatable. We knew they were bad from the get go, and when Lee went down, we knew it was over. This team had talent. If nothing else, they could have been a dark horse for the division, or at least flirting with .500. There's no way that this team should be as bad or worse than that joke of a team in 2006, injuries or not.

But that's something that actually keeps me from wallowing in misery. If they were expected to do so much better, then there's a decent chance they WILL do better next season since so many key players will be back and they have the money to add some big additions.

But will they spend the money on big additions or will they allow Ramirez to leave and go with Baker/DeWitt? If they keep Aramis, sign Fielder and acquire another starting pitcher then they are right back in the hunt.

Cubs still havent scored since the blown bases loaded 0 out situation yesterday

Actually, they haven't scored since Aramis hit the 2 run homer in the first inning. 17 innings of 0's.

Even though that was an out, Fielder is a freakin monster. Jesus

Once a season against us in a game in Milwaukee Prince will crush a ball that has to be a homer that will be caught on the warning track. I don't get it, but it keeps happening.

5 actually since they scored their 3 runs yesterday in the bottom of the first (assuming you were replying to Ballgame's post and not mine)

I have no idea why you would think I wasn't saying "since the first" as he was saying in regards to the Cubs. Since the first inning of Tuesday's game the Brewers have scored 2 runs (though technically in 2 fewer innings since, y'know, they won at home).

For me, as was mentioned, the 2006 team was supposed to be crappy, seeing their lineup. This team, full of mostly high-paid players expected to do well absolutely kills me when they struggle.

A lineup containing Castro, Ramirez, Soriano, Pena, Soto, and Byrd should be awesome, and most of those guys aren't even having awful years.

The complete lack of clutch hitting is the sharpest dagger to me though.

But it's not like we're 6 games back and can say, if we only had clutch hitting* this year, we'd be right in it. Instead you can say, if we only had clutch hitting this year, we'd be run of the mill bad, rather than terrible, and realize we're not 45 years away from contending.

*I have no idea if our clutch hitting has been worse than it should be.
