Is it just me or does anyone else think its ridiculous how fans at Wrigley still dance and sing to this song after every rare Cubs home victory this season? I mean really, what is there to celebrate this season? Honestly, I wish they would do away with this tradition all together...and also the guest conductor for the 7th inning stretch.

That's the bigger issue to me. I think Go Cubs Go is pointless but harmless (especially since I usually turn the TV off once the game ends anyway). But the guest conductors (especially the interviews following the stretch) need to go.

If you're not going to celebrate a little bit when they win, why go to the game in the first place? Plus you have fans going to Wrigley for their first/second game all the time. It's a little bit of harmless fun that has nothing to do with how they may feel about the overall season.

What do you have against Barry Weiss of Storage Wars? The follow up interview with him was riveting and very informative.

Couldn't agree more. Those damn interviews interfere with the game broadcast.

Celebrate what? The 2nd pick in next year's draft? Maybe they need a new song...it always reminds me of the 13 game losing streak in 1985, which I think was the reason it was made.

I stand corrected, it came out in 84. But, I remember the radio stations playing it in 85 to "help" the cubs end their losing streak.

Anyone know what they do at other mlb stadiums?

Celebrate the win that many spent $100 or more to watch along with the time it took to transport in for the game (some from hours away), and then sat in the moderately hot sun for 3 hours to watch. It would be rather depressing to put all that time/effort/money into it and then not have some fun. If you live in Chicago and have been to quite a few more exciting Cubs games then it might not be that fun to watch this team, but if you fit that criteria you're probably not at many of these games anyway.

Nothing wrong with the song or people singing it after a (rare) win. I agree about the guest conductor though. I loved it when Harry was here and sang along at many ballgames but that was a Harry-ism and should have been retired when he died.

I hate it when people have the nerve to cheer when the Cubs score a run as well. Don't they realize how ridiculous it is to applaud one measly score when the season is lost? Just pay your money, sit on your hands and and walk out with a depressed look on your face win or lose. That's what a real fan would do. Don't even get me started on putting that "W" flag up in CF after games.

since the cubs are bad this year i think fans should sit silently when they score and then file out of the ballpark quietly if they win. alternatively, they could just boo every action by the cubs, like an aramis 3 run homer or a marmol game-ending strikeout. if soriano hits a home run they should just throw trash on the field, because that's what this team is, TRASH.

Replace book with cell phone and that's pretty much what's done now.

Anyways, I say we play the song only when we lose, but with modified lyrics.

"Hey Chicago whaddya say? The number one pick is on it's way!" either that or "Albert Pujols (or Prince Fielder) is on his way!"

Well, I guess it's just me then. I certainly don't think its out of the ordinary to cheer when they do well, but not dance around after theywin a meaningless game.

I mean it's not something I would do when they suck and I think they look stupid. But at the end of the day, it's entertainment and the people were entertained for a day. Let them sing and dance.

I could have understood it in 1998 as a year-long tribute to Harry, but it needs to go away now.

It wasn't a Cubs tradition. They co-opted it. There's nothing "sacred" about it, and the guests aren't desecrating it any worse than the big fat sloppy drunk did.

Can't help but be amused at people criticizing fans dancing to "Go Cubs Go" as being dumb fans who are entertained by anything and then they turn around and talked about the stretch like it's this incredibly rich tradition that needs to be protected or stopped out of respect for Harry.

that song needs to go. Not only is it annoying but it is also poorly written. In boston cubs fans sung that song after the one win we got and it was damned embarrassing. Worst of all it just seems to add to the negative image of cubs fans.

So cheer, but only up to a certain level.

in philly they started singing "high hopes" after games - it was harry kalas' favorite song. who cares if the cubs sing it? it's fun and steve goodman was a nice guy and a huge cubs fan. opposing fans who hate it already hate the cubs and their fans, so the whole "contributes to a negative image of cubs fans" is just stupid.

Because fans were excited after a win? Don't get your line of thinking here? Should we only cheer after a sweep or a series win?

I enjoy the song, and so does my 4yo son. He doesn't care if the Cubs are in first place or last place. He likes to get excited when they win, and I think that's reason enough to keep the song.

Should the Bears not play Bear Down after TD's unless they're in the lead? Should the Blackhawks not play Chelsea Dagger unless the goal puts them in the lead? Or if the game is meaningful?

People have enough reasons in life to be depressed. Let them enjoy themselves at a damn ballgame. Geez.
