Do you guys think Hayden Simpson and Mark Pawelek get together and go out and just get shitfaced and laugh about the money they've stolen from the Cubs? Or do you think Simpson will wait another 2 years so he doesn't feel like a bad person?
Posted

How did the two become such great pals? I think that's the real question here.

Also, did Simpson purposely get mono just to hurt the Cubs? That'd be [expletive] intense.

Simpson didn't allow any runs last time out, so maybe that's something to build off of?

In the end, it may look like an awful pick, but right now, it is way too early to tell for Simpson. He's simply not the same kid, physically, that he was in college, as his body was just so severely weakened. By most accounts, even now, he's not really back at full strength, relative to what he showed in college. Every indication is that Simpson is working hard.

Now, if there turns out to be some arm problems, as some have speculated, that'll be cause for concern. I also wish the Cubs would simply shut him down and bring him back for AFL. It's far too early to write off Hayden, though. Even if you assume that the Cubs simply saw him on his good days in college, when he flashed mid-90's most of the game, and believe that the low 90's velocity that many others saw was more legitimate, he's simply not there right now and is, by most accounts, only topping out in the high 80's.

Two interesting notes from Bruce's blog:

Not always good when the GM of the big club shows up. Some guys think they're going to Chicago with the GM when he goes back. I'm told Jackson might have been pressing for the past few days.

Bruce,

In the past ten games or so, Vitters seems to be getting walks at a decent clip.

Do you have a sense from Fleita and Co. if this result is just chance, or are there signs he's trying to improve his approach?

Yes, I'm told he's maturing as a hitter and is trying to swing at good pitches. He's made a lot of contact, but he's often gotten himself out. We'll see, but a good finish would be interesting.

i'd feel a lot better about vitters if he were an average defender at 3b. he made his 20th error tonight and is on pace for about 30 this year, which is [expletive] horrendous for a 3b who sometimes plays 1b.

Yeah, that's my biggest concern at this point. While still very inconsistent, the offense seems to be slowly catching up to Vitters' level. I'm not sure if the offense will ever be good enough to overcome terrible defense, though.

Just like he was pressing his junior year at Cal? Not a good trait.

daytona seemed to have a rain delay (the game started an hour and a half ago and is only in the third inning) and rhee came out to continue pitching after it. do not like. hopefully MiLB box scores are wrong about that.

they don't walk enough, undisciplined hitters, aggressive Cubs minor league hitting philosophy.

WALK Walk, please walk, don't score runs....

Crappy prospects because they don't walk

I want a walk, but the damn pitcher keeps throwin strikes, but some internet experts keep saying I don't walk enough because I am too aggressive and have no plate discipline.

GEEZ, there is no curse, just desperation on their needs.

iowa is down 5-2. dave bush was bad. our outfield of the future (brett jackson and colvin, obviously) is 1-8 with 7 K's. beef welington is having a nice game, 3-3 with a double and home run.

tennessee won 6-5 in extras. ty wright had a big game - 4-5 with 2 doubles, a home run, the game-tying rbi (home run) and game-winning rbi (double). j-h ha went 1-4 with a walk, home run and K. vitters was 0-4 with the error that led to 3 unearned runs. dolis pitched well, 2 IP, no walks and 1 K.

daytona is getting crushed 9-1. rhee pitched poorly. nobody has really done much on offense; bour is 2-3 and szczur 0-3 with a walk and SB.

peoria got shut out 2-0. geiger had a pair of singles (and a pair of strikeouts); jokisch pitched fine.

boise leads 2-1. wilengton cruz: 6 ip, 6 h, 1 r, 2 bb, 3 k. golden has a walk in 3 PA's; w. contreras is 1-1 with a walk and a triple.

no idea what's going on in arizona. simpson started, allowed 2 unearned runs on an error by zapata (1 ip, 0 h, 2 r, 0 er, 1 bb, 1 k, 1 hbp)... zapata was PH for in the bottom of the first and then simpson was removed to start the second inning. marco hernandez sac bunted a guy over to second base and made the second out of the inning, which should delight davearm to no end.

Since I sort of skipped through that other thread, I am curious if you think Vitters approach as of now is conducive to success in the majors? Furthermore, I am also curious about how you explain that even Vitters has acknowledged that he needs to have a better approach at the plate. And ... it isn't limited to "internet experts". Scouts have said it, publications like BA/BP have said it. Maybe Vitters is unique and will be able to succeed with his current approach, but taking a dig at fans when almost all objective observers have suggested the same thing (that he needs to improve his approach) is ... odd.

Vitters was drafted #3 overall to be a middle of the order, run producing thumper. Why would we want him to walk? It only clogs up the bases, dude.

Your entire post is a masterpiece of ignorance, but this line is especially awful. Are you actually implying that encouraging walks will discourage scoring?
