Looking at Reeds splits for the year so far, vs. LHP, In 42 AB, his hitting .357/.400/.571 with 1 HR. Vs. RHP, in 36 AB, hes hitting .361/.429/.738 with 3 HR. Why are we starting Tony Campana again? Even Lou and Dusty knew to ride the hot horse until you broke his back.

It might be because they don't want to break his back. Meaning, perhaps you can get a full year of quality play by picking spots for Reed to play in and not overusing him to the point where he breaks down by the middle of July and is worthless the rest of the season.

 

Now, I suppose it doesn't matter either way since he's an older veteran on a team not going anywhere, but that could be the thinking.

Because Johnson would have to put up those numbers against RHP for a long while before I thought he was a better option than Campana, especially considering defense. Also, finding out what Campana has at the MLB level for future decisionmaking is probably worth the marginal difference between the two alone.

Yeah, it's not to decide if Tony Campana can be the everyday CF on a championship team, it's to help decide if he's going to hit enough to even belong on an MLB roster.

Yeah, it's not to decide if Tony Campana can be the everyday CF on a championship team, it's to help decide if he's going to hit enough to even belong on an MLB roster.

 

IMHO, his ceiling is a guy you bring up in September as a late inning defensive sub or extra pair of legs for when someone like Aramis or Geo get on base in a close game and you need a grind out a run.

I didn't know Dunn's #'s were that bad this year.

 

It's quite embarrassing. He and Dan Uggla have been two horrific off-season signings.

 

I'd still trade Soriano for either one of them, though.
