CC at 85 pitches at the beginning of the 7th and 90 after the 7th. Top of the order produces a 5 pitch inning. I don't care what anyone says, that is an amazingly stupid team.

They got really good pitches to hit and made good contact and the Yankees had some sharp defense to counter. Do you want them not to swing at pitches they can put good wood on?

Johnson and Baker hit the ball to the opposite field. I don't consider that a good thing by two bench players.

Plus the team is notoriously an impatient team. Tell me again how this works for them year in and year out.

Quade makes another bonehead move having DeWitt pinch hit instead of Fukudome. Then he moves Baker to right. Baker promptly shows he has no business playing the outfield. A bad team with an idiot manager is a recipe for disaster.

Hah, so now it's a bad thing if a player drives the ball oppo if they're not regular starters? You're talking like taking pitches is automatically a good thing or the right thing to do. Everyone drove the ball well in that inning off of good pitches to hit off of a good pitcher they were actually getting to. The problem was that the Yankees had some good defensive plays for 2 of them and the 3rd was driven right at someone.

On any given pitch there is nothing wrong with swinging at something you can drive. But over the course of a game and a season it is absolutely necessary to not be a bunch of overaggressive morons. The Cubs are a bunch of overaggressive morons, and have been throughout virtually the entire Hendry era (with the exception of portions of the Piniella era).

And nowhere did I say that that's a good or necessary thing over the course of the season. My issue is zeroing in on a single half-inning where it WASN'T an example of being aggressive automatically being a bad thing as if that was the epitome of what's wrong with the Cubs.

You're both right, and those weren't bad pitches to swing at as they were all hard hit balls in that inning. I definitely prefer to see them take more pitches, but that half inning certainly wasn't a problem of just hacking since the results were hard hit balls either right at people or forcing them to make really good defensive plays.
