I know Jackson has been bad.....but I don't think he's been THAT bad....

It should be strange and unusual punishment to be a fly ball pitcher in the PCL.

Very excited to see what Ben Wells first start looks like. Granted, I'm guessing he won't go more than 3 or 4 innings, but I am going to be curious how he throws.

some guy hit his 4th hr in just 12 games for DSL cubs 1, but he's 19 and his K rate was appalling the last two years, so it's probably nothing.

it's always a bummer to see a guy hitting really well and showing some power, then clicking on his name and finding out he's a 24 year old from cuba.

rusin got knocked around in his first inning and was pulled. not sure if it's something physical; it doesn't seem like his first inning was so bad that he should've been removed.

Ryan Searle has put together a pretty decent line in relief of Rusin. 5 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K. Not bad for a guy who's still just 21 (he turns 22 in a week) at AA. Not terrible numbers for the year either despite coming as a reliever.

With the NWL starting, Texas' potential uber-prospect RHP David Perez will make his stateside debut today. A quick summary:

David Perez has fanned 22 and walked one in 13 extended spring training innings, permitting three runs on 10 hits. The Dominican Summer League opens today, but Perez won’t be going back after he posted a 1.41 ERA in 13 DSL starts last year, striking out 62 and walking only eight in 64 innings and limiting opponents to a .202 batting average (allowing one run in his final 45 innings last summer, on 20 hits and four walks with 42 strikeouts). Word is that the 18-year-old’s fastball has touched 98 in Surprise this month.

Fitzgerald was demoted, doubt he's around much longer, especially with the influx of players from the draft. The guy who's got 4 homers in the DSL is Xavier Batista, who was also demoted from Arizona.

Hayden Simpson with another mediocre outing.

4.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, HR

That's a mediocre outing for a 5th round pick. It's a bad outing for a 1st rounder. I've never hoped a Cubs player was weak and not a 100% more in my life.

Yaniel Cabeza with an RBI double in his first U.S. pro at bat. Boise up 2-0 in the top of the 2nd. Ben Wells had a 1-2-3 1st with 2 ground outs and a strike out.

szczur didn't do anything, but i really like his contact skills... only k'ing in about 10% of his plate appearances since signing with the cubs. for a guy who played football at a high level through high school and college, i think that augurs well... you'd expect him to be a bit more raw with the bat since he lacks the experience of playing year-round and focusing solely on baseball.

Jay actually ended up giving up 7 ER through 4. I'm not going to flat out give up on him, but if he doest turn things around, I wouldnt go out of the way to protect him from the Rule 5.

Seeing as he's been bad for a full year now, has had shoulder problems and his stuff isn't as good as it was a year or two ago, he's struggling to stay in my top 30.

su-min jung has been pretty lousy this year... we haven't really gotten much out of the far east pitchers we've been signing.

Sounds like the shoulder injuries have caught up to him.
