This Bruno chap...can he LeMahieu?

Hmm....more compact than LeMahieu at 5'9".

Season line of .370/.425/.569...211 ABs/ 47 R/ 20 2Bs/ 13 BBs/ 21 Ks/ 2 HR/ 10-13 on SBs

Sounds interesting. No LeMahieu, but sounds interesting.

A better Cubs related comp might be someone like Mike Fontenot. I think he's better than Fontenot, but again, I have bias (as a UVA fan) (and looking at Fontenot's career numbers, they were better than I thought ... ). Did pretty well in one of the summer leagues, forget which one right now.

Anyhow, totally my bias talking there. Most sites have Chris Taylor as the better UVA infield prospect and a possible top 3 round pick (wouldn't mind if the Cubs picked him in the 3rd/4th as a hopefully cheaper college sign).

I was thinking Scooter Gennett with more pop, when I think of Bruno.

Btw, my favorite prospect that I seen this year was LHP Alex Young of Carmel HS, Mundelein, IL. Probably go rds. 2-3.

What's he got?

89-93 FB

Avg. curve

Plus change

Commit to TCU-was considered an after-thought as far as the top guy in the area (Borucki and Lilek were higher), he was more in the 2nd tier but I was there for his 1st start and he was electric.

TCU's also been picking up interesting arms lately as well, so that's also encouraging.

He's a little passive as a kid and there's some signability questions (from the parents).

What's the scouting report on Firth? I haven't seen him since HS and he was undersized but 88-92 and can throw 4 pitches for strikes, very polished, likely wouldn't get much better.

I don't know how I feel about a high school short stop. We already have Castro, Lake, Alcantara, Hernadez, and Amaya. We're pretty well stocked in that department. I know it's a valuable position, but perhaps we should try to fill one of the other holes, like say every other position besides MI, toolsy center fielders, back end starting pitchers/swingmen, and future AAAA first base sluggers.

Unless you're in the 30th round and trying to balance the roster at Mesa and Boise, position is of absolutely zero concern. Especially shortstop of all places, which is where tons of guys start and then move off.

Exactly. My problem with Correa would be that I don't buy the hype. I don't see a Machado or a Tulowitzki in his bat. That might just be me playing contrarian, but I think I still prefer both Buxton and Almora.

Well, Buxton is considered a far better prospect than Correa and unlikely to be available at 6. You don't have to see Machado or Tulowitzki in Correa to consider him a good pick at 6 and better than Almora (though Correa is getting Tulowitzki and Zimmerman comps from scouts).

Almora is getting similarly impressive names in the OF as comps, including Beltran and Moises Alou.

Dennis (Chicago): If the Cubs cannot get one of the top 3 pitching prospects who do you think they will take?

Jim Callis: Zunino, Almora or Correa.

So if they can't take one of these 3 guys they will take one of these 3 guys? Thanks for the clarity Jim.

Read on PSD from that guy with the info that Soler is "imminent" and that the Cubs are targeting Almora.

Take it for what it's worth. Both sound great to me, especially if it's actually true.

Could you link me, please?

Raisin, it's from a guy named joeby from BCB. He said Soler is immenent and we're targeting Almora in the draft. Joeby got a few draft signings right last year, but it could easily have been educated guesses. He's also been saying for months that Soler is coming. Marlin, the real insider, quoted the original post, yhat said joeby's name. He did say this guy is locked in, but then only said Almora was getting harder to hide. He mentioned nothing about Soler at all. So my take on it, is if we did find anything out, it's that we're after Almora. Sorry for no link, posting from my cell.

No link to his BCB post since I refuse to give Al Yellon traffic:

Hearing the Soler signing is imminent

Also the Cubs are in fact targeting Almora with their first pick.

I do remember this guy offering info on signings last summer. Hopefully this is true. Biiiig fan of Almora as well ever since I was introduced to the name here.

Joeby? Who knows? Personally I'm skeptical. 4th on the big board came from Abty. Definitely talks to scouts, but who knows if what he's hearing is correct info? If I'm not mistaken, his best sources are Royals guys. Marlin though, the real deal, just brought up Almora and he was right on Baez and Simpson, among many others. So, we better all be readying ourselves for Almora. I'm kind of excited personally.
