Austin Urban, 41st round RHP, turned 19 last month, says that he's signed.

Why do I guess that he'll later announce that he got 4th round bonus and college coverage?

His scouting report was that he was wild, had a bad delivery, but threw 90-92, has touched 94, and has a slider.

I expected he'd need $200k+ to sign. He actually just started pitching 3 years ago.

His scouting report from the 2010 draft:

One scout called Urban "the flavor of the month" in April, when his fastball jumped into the 89-93 mph range with sink and occasional cut. He pitched mostly at 90-91 through the spring. Urban is not overly physical at 6-foot-1, 175 pounds, and his long, loose, one-piece arm action evokes Jered Weaver, but with a higher slot. He flirts with a plus fastball, and the rest of his repertoire needs refinement. He'll flash a slightly above-average slider every half-dozen times he throws it, but he's still learning to command the pitch--not surprising considering he has pitched for just two years. He slows his arm speed to throw his changeup, yet it still comes out too hard. He has an even demeanor and plenty of potential, and a club could make a run at him in the top 10 rounds, but he's more likely headed to Penn State.

And this year:

One of the top high school prospects in Pennsylvania last year, Austin Urban turned down the Orioles as a 27th-round pick. Originally committed to Penn State, he opted to attend Des Moines Area CC so he could be eligible for the 2011 draft. After a terrible start this spring, he came on down the stretch and struck out 13 against Williston State (N.D.) in a district tournament championship game win that put the Bears in the Division II Junior College World Series. A 6-foot-2, 180-pound righthander, Urban has a 90-92 mph fastball that touches 94. He also an 83-85 mph slider and the makings of a changeup. Scouts don't love his one-piece arm action, however, and he needs to repeat his delivery better in order to improve his command.

Jensen said he got 4th round money to sign:

The Monterey County Herald[/url]"]Two weeks before the signing period for drafted players is up, the Cubs locked up the right-handed Jensen with a six-figure signing bonus.

"The offer was extremely good for the round I was drafted in,'' Jensen said. "My school is still paid for. My dream is to play professional baseball. If I had stayed in college, my focus would have been baseball.''

Drafted in the 26th round by the Cubs, Jensen received a signing bonus (figures were not released) similar to what much higher drafted players are offered.

"I was told the signing bonus was comparable to what a fourth round pick receives,'' said the 6-foot-1, 185-pound 20-year-old. "Most 26 round picks don't get this kind of bonus.''

4th round slot ranges from $168,300 to $240,300.

Jensen got $225,000.

FYI, 37th rounder Steven Maxwell can sign with the Cubs even after Monday's deadline since he is a senior.

Nothing we didn't already know:

#Cubs second-round pick Dan Vogelbach is likely the next domino to fall. Was in Chicago a couple of days ago for a physical.

Any idea what's up with him? There was a time when he was a good college pitcher. He's not just a senior, he's going to turn 24 in a couple of weeks. Is he injured? On drugs? Or simply realistic that pro baseball isn't for him and he's going to med school or law school or something practical like that?

MLB Trade Rumors

Cubs Agree To Terms With First Rounder Baez bit.ly/oJUavZ #mlb

Expected, but great to hear.

I can't wait to see how he does and see if the bat speed is for real.

Definitely. For what it's worth, Jim Callis did a Baseball America podcast yesterday (8/12) and said that in his opinion, Baez has far and away the best bat speed of anyone in the 2011 draft. Hope he's right.

@PWSullivan Paul Sullivan

Cubs have not agreed to terms with Baez, contrary to web site's tweet.

In other words, the deal isn't official yet.

Yeah, Kendall Rogers said he's agreed to terms too:

Big night for #cubs fans. Just learned 1st-rdr javier baez has agreed to terms. No surprise at all there. #mlbdraft #mlb #jacksonville

Sounds like it will be official before Monday though.

@rogercfr Yep. Crazy night. I have absolutely no doubt at this point Baez gets done. As said, source says an agreement is there. #mlbdraft

Yeah, I'm guessing he's agreed to terms but hasn't signed. Callis might not have the source and Sullivan might be going on technicalities.

Obviously Baez is going to sign given his murky college situation.

Sounds like the 1st rounders most likely not to sign or the toughest to sign are:

21. Toronto Blue Jays - RHP Tyler Beede, Lawrence Academy (Groton, MA) - Vandy commit

25. San Diego Padres - RHP Joe Ross, Bishop O'Dowd HS (Oakland, CA) - UCLA commit

26. Boston Red Sox - C Blake Swihart, V. Sue Cleveland HS (Rio Rancho, NM) - Texas commit

27. Cincinnati Reds - RHP Robert Stephenson, Alhambra HS (Martinez, CA) - Washington commit

Dunston tweeted yesterday that we should know his decision today. Joeyb and another poster are saying he's going to sign (JoeyB said first round money). Sweet. I honestly don't one bit care if we overpay, it's nice to see this be a priority for once.

On Dunston, I really like what I see from the videos i've watched. I think he could be a good one. Extremely fluid at everything.

Question: When is the deadline, actually. Midnight tomorrow, or 4 pm, or what? If it's midnight or 4, is that eastern time?

I've had August 15 on my mental calendar for a while, but I'm wondering if it will all be determined and public by tomorrow evening, or what.

And then how soon some of the info will get public. Dunston and Jacques are Tweeters supreme, and will cost dollars, so they'll tell us soon enough.

But if David Ernst or Tanner Kischner sign, how will we find out and how soon?

It's midnight Eastern tomorrow night (that is, 11 pm CT Monday night). On the overslots, BA and Perfect Game should let us know a little after the agreement has been reached, so we should know by about 12:30 am ET Tuesday at the latest. Might take upwards of an extra day for minimal over slots or slot 35th round types.
