Where would Baez start if signed soon?

I am hoping for:

Baez

Vogelbach

2 of:

Maples, Dunston, Jacquez

Along with the international signings that would be a great class.

I truly meant every word I wrote about Easterling. Just wait till you see the guy. He has a long way to go to make the major leagues, but he is a hunk of a specimen and an athlete, and only needs to work on the bat. I hope and believe his bat will come around since he is full time baseball now. Just wait till you see the guy, you will know what I am talking about. Wish everyone could have caught him on tv.

Was your favorite player of the 90's Ron Gant?

Mesa, with a callup to Boise in the last week or so of the season if he performs well enough.

Agreed.

If a 27th round pick becomes Ron Gant, I don't think anyone will complain.

No doubt about it. But he could also be Roosevelt Brown.

I just think it's interesting (creepy?) that tspain seems to be really excited about Easterling, all because of his hard body.

If he were to go lights out in Mesa for a couple weeks my guess is they would promote him to Boise sooner.

Tell you why. I get tired of the Cubs selecting guys who couldn't hit a home run if they had to. They have taken middle infielder types and center field types, and I wanted so bad to get some corner types in here, some home run hitters, middle of the order type guys. And Easterling is that type guy. So I am excited like many others here to see us take some corner type players. And when I see Easterling, although not a big guy, but a muscle man, I like it. I know he can be a power hitter and play a corner spot. And I hope he can come a long way just by playing baseball now, and put it all together and reach Chicago in the near future. Yes, it will take some time, but the kid has a world of talent. Just the kind of body I want the Cubs to take, and they did take this draft, thank God.

Actually Easterling is much more the speedy CF type you're complaining the Cubs take too many of, than the corner power type you are wanting more of.

When Easterling came out of HS, his stats imply he had some power anyway(13 homers his senior season). I'm not even sure I remember seeing him(or at least he did so little, I didn't take notice) the few times I saw FSU play over this past year. But, to sign a 22 year old and give him a decent overslot to keep him from football, tells me the Cubs probably see something in him, that gives him the ability to become much more than a slap hitter, if you ask me. That said(and I didn't look all THAT hard honestly) but I didn't see any scouting video on him whatsoever. If anyone has anything on him, I'd love to see it personally. But, I tend to agree with tspain here, because he at least showed some power at some point and this could very well be a case where he just needs coaching and to knock quite a bit of rust off. If this IS the case, he's an upside guy anyway, which seems to me, what tspain was saying for the most part.......

According to BA, 21st round LHP Andrew McKirahan out of Texas signed.

Everytime I see a new post in this thread, I rush to rip it open like a kid on christmas, but its usually just tube socks.

Man, I'm the exact same way and don't really want to post any type of responses to anyone either for that very reason: I figure we're all waiting to see something cool happen here.

As far as McKirahan goes, cool I guess.

Mike (Denver): What are your thoughts on Dan Vogelbach? Is he worth the 1.65 million dollar signing bonus that I'm hearing? Can the Cubs even sign him?

Jim Callis: There are whispers that deal may already be done. If so, that's a big bet on his power. It's intriguing power, but I'm not sure what else he brings to the table.

My guess is some of these have been done for maybe a week or so. Bud is just waiting as long as he can since they're probably overslot. I don't think they've announced DeVoss signing yet and I think he's been signed for at least a week.

Zeke DeVoss must have signed because he's in the Mesa's starting lineup.

6th rounder Neftali Rosario also signed. DeVoss got a $500,000 bonus, 47% over slot:

Jim Callis[/url]"]The Cubs signed third-round pick Zeke DeVoss on Wednesday for $500,000. MLB's recommendation for his No. 98 draft slot is $341,100, which DeVoss exceeded by 47 percent–the highest percentage over slot for any pick in the first five rounds so far this year.

DeVoss and sixth-rounder Neftali Rosario are the only Cubs picks in the first 15 rounds to have turned pro with a month remaining before the Aug. 15 signing deadline.

A Miami outfielder who had extra leverage as a sophomore-eligible, DeVoss stands out most for his speed and athleticism. He's an on-base machine with little power, and while he profiles as a center fielder, he rarely played there for the Hurricanes.

Thanks for note on Rosario signing. He's only 17, so he's got a lot of development time ahead of him.

He's not tall, lists at 5'11", but my understanding is that the Cubs view him as having pretty good power potential as a hitter. BA had very little on him, I think since he's so young and as a Puerto Rican might not have been a showcase guy. But I think the cubs view him as having some power potential, in keeping with their prioritization on that this draft.

Interesting that DeVoss got that much overslot. Any sophomore or HS/JC has leverageso some goes without saying. But I admit that surprised me some. Certainly he was one of the guys (well, he and Rosario) that seemed to produce the least enthusiasm on the board when they were taken. Hopefully they both work out.

DeVoss walked like crazy as a sophomore. Hopefully the Cubs don't discourage that.

Apparently Easterling signed for approximately $200K, according to an interview with Jimbo Fisher today.

Arizona Phil used the same bonus figure when he mentioned Easterling at TCR today.
