I would have loved to see Hendry and co. gone before this season, too, but let's be realistic: this season wouldn't have been much better, if at all.

Agreed, one year of evaluation wouldve been rushing it. No GM or manager could have turned them into a contender. I disagree with the thought of trying to win based on career years while blocking guys in the process, luckily it might only be Colvin and maybe Samardzija that applies to. Although, Davis and Lopez are frustrating as I'm sure there are younger arms whether FA or out of options avail than two guys over the hill.

Yeah most likely. And this topic has been thoroughly covered. But I would have like to see a different major league plan taking shape and heading into this off-season with different personnel and a different itinerary, a year together down.

The way the situation is now seems to have evolved from well let's see what happens this year ya never know - we don't want to make any rash decisions. Okay, we suck bad but we were injured a lot, no need to shake things up just yet. What a disappointing season, we know Hendry has his faults but let's see if he can sign his friend Pujols. They're awkwardly man hugging there's gotta be something to that...

No idea what will happen. I feel like I'm underestimating Ricketts' cajones here and considering we have little history of Ricketts' baseball operations, is likely. But if he comes out and cans Hendry and overhauls the FO, that would be sexy.

Selig should force you guys to trade Soriano to the Pirates for a bad back and a bunch of strike outs.

Or Garret Jones.

I know that it's supremely douchey to link to your own site, but, since it's directly on point and has a fair bit of analysis, I hope you won't destroy me for posting this article. Basically, I took a look at the publicly available numbers about the Cubs' financial situation to try and figure out how much money they'll have to spend in the offseason (and to confirm that they're not in dire straights). Perhaps the most interesting thing I discovered is how much money the Ricketts family still has in TD Ameritrade stock (over $2 billion).

Feel free to delete if I'm overstepping bounds. It's a long article.

Will the Chicago Cubs' Debt Prevent Any Big Free Agent Signings After this Season?

So you're saying that despite the fact that the Pirates have an exciting group of young players, you want Alfonso Sorianos twilight years? As long as they take the contract. Enjoy.

Nice article. Thanks for sharing.

LOL MLB. I'm sure Mark Cuban would have never landed on this list...for any of the franchises, not just the Cubs.

Wrong. Blah, blah, blah... That isn't bad ownership. That is very good ownership.

Excellent post.

This was fantastic. Thank you.

Thanks. I get a good one out once per year.

If the ownership is so great, why does the team suck? Answer me that.

Maybe because it takes a while to turn a big ship around:

*Mesa will bring in millions in profit per year. Mesa isn't online yet.

*The Triangle Building (and other local upgrades) will bring in tens of millions per year. They have to wait on the Wrigley situation before they commit hundreds of millions in finances to the local area.

*Better facilities in the DR will help develop better Latin players. They haven't broken ground yet.

*Better facilities at Wrigley will bring the player facilities (batting cages, less cramped clubhouse, etc.) up to par (or better). They still need buy-in from the public (they have all of the political buy-in that they need).

*CUBTV will rival the Yankee's station (and revenues). They have to wait for their commitment with the Bulls, Sox, etc. to lapse.

It was prior ownership that, over years, didn't sow the seeds of investment in Wrigley, the Triangle building, Mesa, the DR, and CUBTV because they knew they wouldn't be around to reap the benefits. Now the current ownership is moving forward with those programs but you don't buy a team for $850M and throw $300-400M at it in the first year or two. It takes time to get financing partners together.
